Have you been or experienced football in the Riverina and Albury?
I've played in it and been around it, observed it for nearly 20 years.
So who's got no idea?
Probably should have worn a helmet

You people do realise that your leader in the destruction of the evil academies is one Eddie Pie Heart who last night called for the Giants to have use of only 95% of the cap total. So that way we can be a feeder club to you guys.
Nah.
Jeez those least three names sound made up. Do they even exist?

Brilliant! The third last one is what Eddie is doing currently.
Honestly, you could make this so much easier on both of us by reading the whole thing, trying to figure out the big picture of what I'm saying and then make a nice, intelligent and thoughtful reply to my whole post instead of breaking this up into sentences like a high school student. Even if you are a high school student, surely now is a good enough time to learn to write like an adult because it's not that hard. Like, it's just so infuriating to make a refute to a point only to have to address it again in the very next post because you haven't bothered to read far enough in before typing your reply. It's almost like you want this to keep going around in circles or something.Basically you've given up.
Oh, but you're just a little pissed so this is your retort
Let's start from the start.2 top 20 draftees until we started our academy from 2000 - 2014, is a good example of why an academy there is a good thing.
But the north-west quarter of Vicoria and virtually half of Tasmania aren't producing Rugby League and Rugby Union players as well as AFL players. There is no competition apart from a summer sport for their "hearts and minds"
But it doesn't and you can, and other clubs did last year. Just like clubs will this year.
Actually it was 15 years, and who's to say that the kids from the north-west quarter of Victoria and half of Tasmania are just going through their shit period at the moment?
Why don't you go for a drive and find out. Attend a few sessions and get back to me.
Someone else made a good point, who's to say that the VFL clubs won't kick up a stink if we have a production line of talented kids from Blacktown and Bankstown that go on to be elite players, and all of a sudden you want our Western Sydney academy shut down also?
What are our guarantees this is where it stops?
Last year it was. This year might be. The next 20 years following can go back to their crap phase, and no one down south would give a flying f$@k
But, just because we may get a couple of good ones, you want to take it off us.
There's a word for that.

You could also stop with the neener-neener bullshit to stroke your own ego as well. I mean, I'm not the one resorting to the personal shit to get my point across so I can hardly be considered the one who's given up. There's a lot more to debating a point than talking as much shit as possible until the other walks away.
Let's start from the start.
No, this 2 in 20 years is absolutely meaningless. For one, this is something that's never been considered a problem before and not considered a problem in any other part of the country. You in particular keep trying to drive home the message that GWS has been the second coming of Christ for the Riverina, but you absolutely refuse to entertain any idea that it could be done another way. That's precisely why nobody believes this fake sob-story about GWS having the best interests of the regions at heart, because you frankly couldn't give a stuff when those best interests conflict with those of your club. You also really couldn't a toss about neglected players in any other area of the country so please excuse me when I pass this off as melodrama.
For two, there's nothing about that statistic that suggests the only answer to having more players drafted from that area is to keep the academy in place. This is a really obvious if X then not Y fallacy, and I can't understand what contortions you've had to put your mind through to arrive at that conclusion but surely they'd be enough to make a gymnast wince. You've said it yourself, these kids are "instant success". The work which GWS has to put into the Riverina to extract a top talent is nothing compared to the work which would have gone into Mills (grandfather didn't kick the footy with him at school) or Heeney (freak or not, he had to learn to kick the ******* ball). They don't need to have their hands held by an AFL club, they need a stage to perform on. So many other ways which they can be provided this opportunity so this hyperbolic crap about destroying the Riverina is clearly not as relevant as what you'd like it to be.
If GWS can get a production line of talented kids from Blacktown, I won't give a shit. I can't speak for the rest of the AFL, obviously, but if you've actually done the work to convert these kids to a sport they've never played before then all the best to you. But to pretend there's any parallels between the kids in Blacktown and the kids in Balranald is ludicrous. There's like three AFL/Netball leagues in an area covered by one League Competition and one Union Competition. And for real, you don't think they play league in Mildura or soccer in Tasmania?
You've had a good run, now step aside and let the region grow on it's own. Put the effort into Dubbo, or Canberra or Wollongong. Don't kid yourself, a huge portion of the GWS academy is centered in a very small portion of the zone. Let's not try and pretend the half-assed involvement in other areas is as serious as what you're doing in the Riverina. Even the other academy clubs are calling you out on that much. I've never heard of a GWS talent scout so much as visiting Dubbo, but I can tell you Sydney is doing a bit of good work around Tamworth. Now if it's good enough for them...?
My club is fragile??????? Pot meet kettle. No, your club isn't special. It's pretty fragile, but it's going to be okay. It can almost stand on its own two feet now.
And go for a drive? I work in ******* Hay. Maybe you should come for a drive. Come watch a football game and see that our non-academy players aren't the complete ******s or rugby league fanatics you seem to think they might become without the steady hand from GWS.
As I said on our board, precedence was set with Riewoldt, we can't complain.Sanity to prevail with Todd Marshall.

The Gold Coast Suns academy is going to bring in some top talent in the next couple of years with a number coming from Northern Qld such as Cairns.
Why dont you hear anyone complaining about it here?

Because everyone know North Qld is an area that is pro Rugby and very little comes out of there for AFL. So everyone is happy to see the talent come out of their and into the Suns.
Brisbane never had the rights to Riewoldt, so they never actually lost the rights to him. GWS and Marshall, on the other hand...
This should be the Giants new mascot

Just like private health insurance, the academies are a rort.
Why do you think the Giants and Swines presidents etc are defending it so vigorously.
Would you want to give something up if it was such an advantage to you. We live in a welfare state and this is nothing more than welfare for a select few.
No one else can jump the draft to get top end talent and get a discount for doing so.
I suggest that every club should be able to establish an academy and recruit to their academy from wherever they like. Perhaps allow an annual take of 10 kids per year from age 14 or 15...??
If the AFL wants to promote development in the northern states, the mandate that every club every club has at least 2 NSW/QLD kids on in the academy.
I also suggest that academy spending should be included as part of football department spending and subject to the soft cap and luxury tax.
Give every club the same opportunities.
Swans Academy supports around 500 kids. Maybe do some research before commenting.

It's been two days, I've given you plenty of opportunity, you still can't argue a point properly. Please direct me to some other GWS fans who can do this properly and keep working on those ad homs son. It's not my problem to worry about neglected kids in other areas. Why would I care?
2 kids in 20 years is a problem. If you can't see that then you're as deluded as your former coach.
Where did I say us not being there will destroy the Riverina?
Us being there has seen a spike in players recruited from the area that the competition hasn't seen in god knows how long.
You should be thanking us for giving a stagnated region a pathway into the AFL. Obviously the VFL didn't care who can from the region.
They may play soccer in Mildura, but I'd hazard a guess to say that the participation rates between the 2, I repeat, 2 codes (not 4 as the Riverina has) would be heavily skewed in the AFL's favour.
STOP THE F.....G PRESSES. The Seans are doing a lot of work in Tamworth? God damn. How long have they been putting developmental work...into their own zone? Does Eddie knows this is going on??!!
Maybe you're right. Maybe we should put work into Woollongong.
Oops...Nooe that also belongs to the Swans. I don't think they'd appreciate that too much.
My club is fragile??????? Pot meet kettle.
Considering my family owns a farm in Jezza Finlayson territory, I think I know the area fairly well, and what we as a club are bringing to it.
I have to breakdown what you say because you're just so god-damned boring. I also ignored two complete sentences of utter crap you posted.
