Best thing about Adelaide is the linear trail. Can ride from Glenelg to West Beach then through the city and out the back of Athlestone. I think they have free bike hire in the city and while I don't think you would want to go city to Glenelg return on a hire bike just doing a lap of the Torrens around the city would give you a good tour of the sights. Elder park down past the arts centre, the rowing sheds, Torrens weir and down through boynthon park then out to the brewery and the channel 7 building, turn around and come back the other side of the river past memorial drive and AO, ride all the way through to Hackney Rd then cross the river, turn around and come back down the other side past the zoo and back to Elder park. Good ride and in a city of a million people could hardly believe how under-utilised the area was. I used to live inner north east and did that ride every day after work pretty much.

couple times a week we walk from the torrens weir to hackney rd and back, once you get passed the frome st bridge and the zoo you would think you are in the hills, i never knew that was there until we started walking it

I love Adelaide, it has a certain charm to it other Aussie cites do not have.

Like the tram that seems like it will fall into the sea at Glenelg just before it ding ding stops.

Or the Alice in Wonderland gardens along the Torrens.

Or the way you can walk in any direction from the city center and end up and a glorious park.

Or how the sin on Hindly street seems sane and tame.

I love this city.

Except, all the strange, middle aged men with strange facial hair, alone, hanging out by public rest rooms.

That I find disturbing.

Honestly my tastes are pretty broad. Only things I really want to avoid is shopping and clubbing. If you can recommend a place for a quiet beer or a good cup of coffee, or somewhere for a solo meal around the CBD where I won't get completely ripped off, I'd be much obliged.

I was going to take a look around some of the historic and cultural venues in the city this afternoon, but not really sure where to start. Maybe a walk through the Botanic Gardens to the Australian Wine Centre?

Is the maritime museum worth a taxi trip? RussellEbertHandball

My apologies for not seeing this earlier.

What did you end up doing?

Central markets, most of the cultural stuff along North Terrace, Botanic Gardens, Glenelg.

Other than that, mostly just ate and drank too much. Had my first pie floater at the King's Head, hit a couple of bars on Peel St, and watched the sun go down at 2KW.

Sounds great. If you ever find cause to be in town again I suspect you'd have a good time hiring a car and checking out McLaren Vale, the Barossa, Adelaide Hills, Clare etc. None more than an hours drive away, but there's some bloody good stuff there.

Yeah I was in Clare during the week. That was great - awesome wine and really laid back, nowhere near as commercial as I was expecting.

Really looking forward to exploring the rest of the wine regions.

There is a tram in Glenelg ringing it's bell just before it will fall into the sea,

And why not fall into that beautiful sea?

And it never does, all passengers arrive to the sea safety.

And there is a river, that is just barely a river, but the gardens planted around it make it an Eden, and one of the most beautiful river walks anywhere

And there are pandas in the zoo living an a Chinese masterpiece painting

And there are bats by the zoo and botanical gardens, with warning signs, but I love their bat chatter and watching them fly off into their night, there is nothing to fear here

And there is an old and ancient great tree in the botanical garden, fallen and dead, ancient but still remembered with it's own memorial sign

And the sin on Hindely Street is a sane kind of sin.

And there is a coffee, one better than any coffee I have ever had even in Italy, to be found in the market, near where the legal big wigs parade their sense of justice

And the University of Adelaide campus is so beautiful you probably cannot learn anything real about human nature there, but still, it is so beautiful

And there is a pub where I sang Led Zeppelen songs with lesbians.

And the city is humane and knows it's humane grace.

And the homeless people swim in bread.

And the train station knows how to give you a grand and elegant hello or goodbye as you escape with the Maltise Falcon.

And everywhere you walk, no matter how drunk you are, sooner or later you run into a beautiful park and sober up in the beauty of it.

And there is a love lock on the bridge of love locks, with my name on it, and Jasmine's too.

I miss Adelaide.

Apparently he just jumped straight down

People seem to be caught up in how he got down, but I just assumed he jumped/slid, and possibly had the people gathered below break his fall.

My immediate questions were how did he get up there (as there's really nothing to climb AFAIK), and how he stuck the landing on the balls so cleanly. Must be one of those parkour freaks.
