In town by myself for the weekend, and was wondering if anyone could give me some recommendations. Am currently going to AGSA for the Impressionists and maybe the Crows game tomorrow night.

Staying in Glenelg and don't have a car, so in and around the city would be best.

The Crazy Horse in Hindley st :thumbsu:

It's actually a shame that Crowy is no longer with us. I reckon his favourite spots to pretend to go to would match your taste quite well Caeser.

Honestly my tastes are pretty broad. Only things I really want to avoid is shopping and clubbing. If you can recommend a place for a quiet beer or a good cup of coffee, or somewhere for a solo meal around the CBD where I won't get completely ripped off, I'd be much obliged.

I was going to take a look around some of the historic and cultural venues in the city this afternoon, but not really sure where to start. Maybe a walk through the Botanic Gardens to the Australian Wine Centre?

Recommend the Central Markets if you're into food or just people watching. If you're into craft for your quiet beer then the Wheatsheaf is your best bet (short Uber from the city), but plenty of good CBD options too. Try Benjamin on Franklin or The Franklin. 2KW if you want something with a view.

I often recommend The King's Head for visitors as their food and drink is 100% South Australian so it's a good slice of our local eats. They do a good twist on the pie floater for eg.

Also the best coffee in Glenelg is Grind It on Moseley St, IMO. Their food is also good.

Enjoy your stay!

If you're staying at the Bay, catch the Tram into the city. Get off at Victoria Sqaure (in front of the Hilton Hotel) double back a block to Gouger Street and head into the Central market for a look. If you are a foodie there' plenty of sights sounds and smells to interest you. Plenty of option to eat and also is Adelaide's Chinatown so if you like Asian food.... some good coffee options as well.

North Terrace is a bit of a shit hole at the moment due to road works, the museum is next door to the Art gallery so you can have a look in there. The Botanic gardens is just down the road as is the wine centre, which unless you're at a function I don' think it is hugely interesting.

After your culcha, walk back down Rundle Street. Have a beer at the Exeter which is an old school grungy pub, but has a wine list that would match a 3 hat restaurant (only in Adelaide).

Then keep walking through Rundle Mall, touch the balls, then continue down Hindley. Take a left down Peel Street. This is where Adelaide's cool little Hipster Bars/restaurants live. Go have a beer or something to eat places such as Bread and Bone, Clever Little Tailor, Udeberri or countless others.

If after that your feeling a little pissed and lonely and want to part with lots of cash, head into the Horse or Palace on Hindley.

Lots of great ideas, thanks. Good to know the AWC worth skipping.

Any local beers I should keep an eye out for on the taps? I particularly like a good dark ale.

Big Shed Golden Stout Time if you want something dark and different. It's a stout that tastes like a Golden Gaytime.
Lady Burra had a good dark beer last time I was there but I can't remember what it was called. They're in Topham Mall, which is the continuation of Leigh St, parallel to Peel St that Papa G recommended.

I love the panda enclosure at the Zoo, not only are they incredible animals but the entire exhibit is like walking through a beautiful Chinese painting.

Even the low music in the background is good.

It was like Zen Zoo.

I know Chinese is Chan not Zen but I am a sucker for any and all alliteration.

Amrik's a family friend, we're always well looked after.
Have they fixed their drain problem yet? Last 2 times downstairs there smelled like a public toilet.
