So you would have been comfortable with Hopper receiving a ban since the outcome was Will Day ended up injured from his actions?
I don't think your whataboutism is relevent to this thread especially because this thread is about head trauma.

How is it a lack of leadership?

They meet on Monday.

But because it's a Richmond player they should bring it forward?
OK.....
I've seen enough on the West Coast board to see you guys think this is a great big joke.

Of course it’s relevant. It’s a similar action.

If you want to argue that the outcome is the only relevant factor and the action doesn’t matter (which I don’t agree with) go for it. But it’s very relevant as the actions are similar & we aren’t talking years ago, only late last year. So the comparison is very relevant

No relevence, take it to the collorbone injury board.

The optics are they haven’t sat yet & are sitting next week. Not that they aren’t at all.

What’s next you want them sitting at qtr time of the Friday night match?

Shine the MRP signal in the sky and have them convene an emergency meeting on the spot

Accidents do happen, but head trauma elevates this to a more serious level than a broken collarbone. We all know the AFL is more concerned with the outcome of bump than the bump itself, and that should also be the case in incidents like this illegal push. Simply, if you choose to push an opponent in the back into oncoming traffic and that opponent ends up concussed then that lands on the pusher.

So yes, Ginbey should be charged and given a late start to the season.
No, Hopper should not have been charged as a broken collarbone is not as serious as a head injury. But if Hopper's push had resulted in a concussion then he should have been charged.

The Hopper one was not good and caused a significant injury. I'm sure they had a look at it, but in stationary packs players push all the time, so that's opening a real can of worms.

Collision impacts on head's however are taken more seriously, especially one involving people running at speed which is much more dangerous. I don't think Ginbey's action was malicious, but it was dangerous/negligent and could have been a lot worse. There will have to be some statement by the AFL, and he will be lucky if not cited, but might not be a suspension. Could set a precedent however and next time not so lucky.

This is dumb as shit.

So you're saying Hopper is fine because it was collarbone but if they'd have clashed heads he should've been given weeks, despite the action being exactly the same?

The hysterics from some Richmond supporters have been very amusing, to say the least.

What statement?

Hopper deliberately pushed Day square in the back into his teammate, which ended up breaking his collarbone.

Ginbey and Lalor were charging to the drop of the ball, attempting to push off each other when Brock charged back with the flight of the ball.

Unfortunate yes, but there'd be a dozen suspensions a week if this sets a new precedent, unless of course the AFL is only interested in punishing outcomes and not actions, as usual...

It's not hysterics when a young kid has concussion and a broken jaw because of the deliberate actions of a player.

I don’t think it’s the way it should be (it should be the action not the outcome suspension is based on) but AFL seems more outcome focused so he isn’t wrong on how it generally plays out

Wrong.

Ginbey didn't deliberately push Lalor into Brock, they were running to contest the ball drop and Ginbey clearly was trying to push him off his line, as happens in every marking contest.

Yep and that's the main problem, isn't it?

Or they wait to change the rule after letting a star player off, then punishing some spud for a lesser version(hello Maynard/Witherden).

This insane practice of banning players on impact on opponent instead of what they actually did is probably the dumbest thing about the entire MRO/Tribunal/Appeals shitshow. What happened there happens 100x a match, if they won't crack down when it DOESNT cause an injury then none of it matters.

For the record, weak as piss contest to shove him in but if that ball goes over the top then the push off puts the WCE player in a good position to get the ball. Small forwards push bigger players into contests and run back hundreds of times a week. Nothing will change soon.

Why was a free kick given then?
I'm sure if Harley Reid had concussion/broken jaw from a deliberate push you'd have an entirely different take.

Ginbey knew what he was doing had potential to cause serious injury. He shoved a vulnerable player into oncoming traffic.
