Yep, let's stop suspending players and bring on more concussions - THAT'S what will kill the AFLRecords are great, but as I hinted at, they don't remain if things don't change.
The AFL has a long way to fall.
If they ditch the sports betting money and the fans back away, there's a massive hole that won't be filled.
Mid 2000s in the nrl, the complaints were about suspensions and costs to attend.
The league didn't listen to the concerns.
Fans stopped turning up
But it all comes down to where the line is between the game being dangerous and it being safe.Surely you can see that's the point. Regardless if players are aware of the potential risks, the AFL and Clubs are at risk of future compensation. You would be a fool to think an ex-player with a family who is mentally struggling wouldn't seek compensation if there was a real opportunity for a payout; particularly if that helped to support his family.
Weird post....

The village is missing their idiot. Suppose your from Tassie that explains a fair bit.Need a hug? It's ok, your special little boy James will be back after his holiday.
What a campaignerthe game is dead and james sicily has killed it
The end is....accept its a dangerous game and there will be incidental injuries. Or...But it all comes down to where the line is between the game being dangerous and it being safe.
That line is constantly moving.
And presumably will continue it move, as given players are still getting hurt and concussed from all kinds of s**t, it currently is not safe.
Suspending players for dangerous tackles will not make it safe.
So where does it end?
I think that is the fundamental question that people want to know. The AFL have to draw a line somewhere.
The only way to truly make it safe is to remove all legal contact that could result in concussion. Is that the plan?
Or is the line somewhere else?
But hasn't thuggery and really dangerous stuff been banned for the past 20-30 years?
Yep, this is where the shite will really hit the fan...The game's been ****ed for ages but who cares, its been this way since they put the lawyers in charge of the rules and started suspending players for bumps. No point complaining, you don't have to watch or support. Doesn't really matter to Hawthorn anyway this year given its a development year, we're not playing or shaping finals. For my own personal enjoyment, I just pray it wipes out some other players for the teams in contention during the finals series. Would love to see a few key players rubbed out of finals because of tackles haha
Well it has to be, doesn't it?The end is....accept its a dangerous game and there will be incidental injuries. Or...
Pack it in.
I'm serious.
The too'ing and fro'ing is absolutely bloody ridiculous.
Its a contact sport, players will get hurt , players will bang there heads together or on the ground incidentally, own it!!
Players,admin AND supporters.
* me.

You are taught from the age of 5 as a kid to pin the arms, at least I was.I have no doubt players will adapt and adjust how they tackle.
We all know when a player tackles and drives his opponent head first into the ground is in trouble. It’s the first thing we think about now. So, it’s fairly simple. Players and the public have been conditioned to understand a right and wrong way to tackle.
As I said, players will adapt and each year we will have less incidents.
But why have we seen more and more of these types of tackles over the past few years? Is it technique and training to pin arms and throw players to remove them from a contest? Just as it has been trained, it can be untrained.
Well it has to be, doesn't it?
At some point, you'll have to ban speccies. If you want to make it safe, high marking has to go. It's way too dangerous.
Will that happen?
I doubt it. So therefore, there is a line. There is a point where the AFL will tell everyone - stiff s**t if you get hurt.
This post / thread won't age well. Some will see it as hysteria, it isn't.
The league, the custodian of the game, does not listen to the fans, and it shows I'm so many social media comments, and on here.
The NRL was in the same spot about 10 years ago, but they actually listened. It took the game hitting record lows for participation and crowds for them to listen.
I feel like the AFL is at that point. Will they start to listen, or will they keep doubling down?
yeah, you'd like us to believe that wouldn't you...The umpires made an error. They're human, it happens.
It's interesting to see packed grounds just at preseasons games in the 1980's-mid 2000's and to see that fall off. The AFL know there's some decline in some areas, that's why they came up with that abomination AFLX as the lamest gimmick. Some will see it as hysteria, it isn't.

Consider taking off your Hawks glasses. Sicily's suspension was correct in the current context. He could have broken McLuggage's neck. What specific bit of feedback should "they" listen to? Stop suspending James Sicily?
The game is changing but it also changed years ago when they stopped guys getting knocked into next week by off the ball shirtfronts. The fans (me included) LOVED THAT STUFF!!
I still watch those highlights sometimes. I tell you what though, there are a bunch of guys who didn't see Byron Pickett coming in any way, shape or form and are left convulsing on the ground with their eyes rolling back. Sort of entertaining, sort of sickening.
Point being - that savagery was once normal, now it's odd to look at. The game is safer, it's still super competitive. This tackling crack down is way more minor than removing the bump. We will all be ok.
My test - I still yell at the telly. Must mean I'm still engaged.
The trouble is "important" players don't get rubbed out for the same things in finals. The game's been ****ed for ages but who cares, its been this way since they put the lawyers in charge of the rules and started suspending players for bumps. I agree, I hate all this sort of litigation, but they’ll definitely be sued for a lot more if they aren’t seen to be taking significant steps to minimise the likelihood of concussion. And they will be sued because society is ****ed in the head. Not the games fault.
