The AFL is on the edge of not coming back

Some will see it as hysteria, it isn't.
The league, the custodian of the game, does not listen to the fans, and it shows I'm so many social media comments, and on here.

The NRL was in the same spot about 10 years ago, but they actually listened. It took the game hitting record lows for participation and crowds for them to listen.

I feel like the AFL is at that point. Will they start to listen, or will they keep doubling down?
Go read the results of the last 3 or so AFL fan surveys and you’ll see just how detached AFL house is from grass roots supporters on issues of gambling ads, rule changes, noise at AFL venues etc.

Oh dear. Seems the trolls are out in force. Best us Hawks fans stick to our own board by the sounds of it.
Because we think protecting the head from being thrown into the ground via sling tackles is a good thing?

Yesh.

Where is anyone going to go?

The AFL is a monopoly business with a captive audience that treat the game like religion

It's like the catholic church in Rome.

Those in power can do whatever the **** they like and the people will keep coming back for more..

Hey, were you the guy who said Hawthorn has a huge following on the Mornington Peninsula based upon your driving to a Hawks AFLW game in Frankston and seeing some Hawthorn FC bumper stickers on cars? And that your 'research' had to be right because there is no train station out near the Frankston ground....

I pay my money to watch a 360 degree contact sport not netball. Players know the risks when they decide to take up the sport. I certainly did when I played and if i got hurt from landing on my head from a legal tackle I wouldn't sook it up to get compensation like these past players are doing. There's no evidence to suggest it's anything else other than general repeat impact hits to the head over time due to the physical nature of the game not because I hit my head in a tackle. But sure side with the AFL on this because they have the best interests of the game at heart.
Surely you can see that's the point. Regardless if players are aware of the potential risks, the AFL and Clubs are at risk of future compensation. You would be a fool to think an ex-player with a family who is mentally struggling wouldn't seek compensation if there was a real opportunity for a payout; particularly if that helped to support his family.

Weird post....

Crowds are at record highs, not lows.

I think it should be simplified, just a simple thumbs up or thumbs down, make decision making more gladiatorial

See that's the problem than isn't it? Seeking a payout over genuine concerns for the issue of head knocks. If that's the way society has become it's a sad state of affairs. Everyone out to get money. Ask yourself if John Platten would be happy to see some of the tackles getting suspensions. He's part of a class action. Is it really the intention of those players to see the game heading in the direction its heading?. Nothing weird about the post at all what's weird is the apathy people are showing towards people with their hands out.

Most fans are actually in favour of horrific tackles being taken out of the sport.

There are plenty of things the AFL doesn't listen about but thuggery isn't one of them.
But hasn't thuggery and really dangerous stuff been banned for the past 20-30 years?

Isn't John Platten's lawsuit about being sent back out to play and allowed to continue whilst concussed, by the AFL and the clubs?

I don't think there's any mention of the game being dangerous in the class action.

Read the above post about fan surveys. But sure be an AFL sycophant. You probably haven't even played footy yourself but think your an expert. You Enjoy the players gently taking players to ground obviously. Your either a troll or clueless about football.

Exactly right. Where was the duty of care for Mcluggage when they didn't put him on the stretcher when he was unconscious for 2 minutes on the ground?. That's exactly the argument John appears to be making not this nonsense about tackling. People should be looking at all the facts around this issue and not what's getting fed to them by AFL house.

Need a hug? It's ok, your special little boy James will be back after his holiday.

Not sure how AFL is unpopular by what metric. Didn't they just break the record for highest attendance ever over first 9 rounds?

Did I say it's unpopular?
I compared the direction of the afl to that of the nrl in the mid 2000s

I swear, people read what they want

None of your “back in my day” stuff is going to change the fact that if the AFL aren’t seen to be taking significant steps to reduce the likelihood of concussion, they will be sued for tens if not hundreds of millions of dollars.

So if their choice is between potentially losing a few hundred dollars a year from the likes of you, or lose tens or hundreds of millions of dollars in compensation, I have a funny feeling I know which one of those two options they’ll choose.

You’ll be missed. Not.
And they will be sued because society is ****ed in the head. Not the games fault.

No one wants horific tackles. But now we get a player accidentally hits their head on the ground being tackled and get rubbed out.

T league is going too far.

You apply AFL rules to NRL there is a free kick paid every 3rd tackle. Too high, too rough etc.

So why is the NRL not as worried about contact injury and law suits? They arent destroying the game addressing concussion.
