Hey pies fans - was going to post this on the main board but assumed that it would be shot down.

As I see it the only bad action Alan Didak has done wrong is lie to his club and hang his mate out to dry - which is bad enough.

Did he shoot the gun? Did he drive drunk?

He shouldn't have been in the vicinity of these dumb acts by others - but he actually didn't do anything. Not sure what is driving the witch hunt? perhaps $'s generated thorugh advertising in nespapers - but I'd be pretty confident that if the witch hunt didn't happen - he wouldn't have lied to his club.

i am of the same opinion
basically someone at every club has done something far worse and it didnt get one millionth the media attention

he has made some bad decisions after a nite on the drink..but then again who hasnt done something similar to wat he has?

personally i think the hole thing got blown out of proportion

Unfortunately we live in a simple world where being guilty by association is bad enough. People say "if Didak had called the police on the psycho then he may never have killed those guys." They assume that because he was getting a lift home with him that they were mates and that he was involved.

That gives him a bad rep and from then anything slightly controversial with Dids involves becomes a massive issue as he has a "behavioural problem" it's bull but it is the world we live in.

He's guilty of making bad decisions but mainly guilty of being a high profile Collingwood player. If he played for St Kilda or something you wouldn't have heard about it, instead the Shaw/Didak thing got 18 pages in the Herald Sun (front and back) over 2 days.... disgraceful

A simple world full of simple people who's opinions and actions are influenced by the media they rely on to guide their lives.

The media tell them what to eat, how to dress, where to holiday and who to vote for. Why would they not follow suit when it is time to think...they turn on the tellie or pick up the paper to form their opinions.

If Robinson mowed down a pedestrian whilst drunk it would barely get a paragraph. Sure it does deserve to be covered, but people who you don't give a **** about were giving stupid opinions. No named **** sticks like O'Reilly or Riley from The Australia was making up bullshit as news, people were over analysing it.

People who defend the coverage (mainly media types) saying that "we only covered the news" would be right if that's all they did. However it's when every man and their dog at a paper publishes their opinion (often stating it as news) that's when I have a problem.

true, im glad it happened a few weeks ago instead of a week before trade time. gives everyone time to cooldown, although i have faith in the pies to not make rash over the top decisions on somethin that really isnt worth the press it got.

people like t shaw etc etc calling for him to be sacked live in a fantasy world

DIDAK and SHAW

is it just me or is it evreytime we hear a collingwood player speak the stance seems to be getting weeker and weeker on the didak and shaw suspension

was very interseted to read todays obree's coments today when asked on a possible return this year.

"I doubt it, but we haven't focussed on it at all," he said on Thursday.

"It's Freo this week, and then we'll worry about it next week."

The veteran said the pair had handled their suspensions well.

"They've been terrific around the club, the amount of work they've been doing, they've been training and doing everything with us.

"They've been great – with the amount of flack that they've copped, they've been fantastic."

Despite midfielder Dane Swan last week strongly endorsing the mercurial forward's retention, O'Bree refused to be drawn on the future of Didak at the club, insisting he had no personal view on the issue.

"Like I said, we haven't really looked at it at all.

"It's something that will probably be discussed at the end of the year, I'm not too sure, but we're worrying about Freo this week."

i hope they bring them back!!!

thorghts?

Re: DIDAK and SHAW

Bring 'em back! Get the cheer-squad to make a big "Bring Back Didak" banner

Didak was widely disliked prior to 2007. Whenever there was a BF poll on most hated players, he figured prominently.

Didak is responsible for his own actions. He could have minimised the damage to his reputation if he had been more honest from the outset - that was entirely within his control. But I am convinced the fact Didak was always seen by non-Collingwood people as a little smartass has a lot to do with how he has been portrayed in the media. Perhaps Ben Cousins' would have been treated differently by the media if he didn't always have that sly smirk and terrible taste in shirts. Why did Milne always cop much more shit than Montagna?

Re: DIDAK and SHAW

The standard was set, and the long term gain could be large.

They need to stick this through.

This is coming from a user with the name didaka so he obviously ranks among my favourite players.

The penalty must stick and he must learn the hard way. Same for Shaw.

They will come back bigger and better for this.

P.S. The club has put themselves in this position and now have no leeway to move around it.

They should've maybe looked at a 3 weeks suspesnion. That would've been suitable enough. But missing finals, I think Dids might step up and say shit, I ****ed up. No more of this shit, and the whole player group should follow because each and every time the media attention gets worse and we get crucified.

Start looking after the club a bit better.

He stuffed up, I don't really have a problem with him "doing a runner" but he should have informed the club the next day, taking responsibility at least for being out drinking during a 6 day break.

Still, mountain out of a molehill.

Next year get him a cabcharge card and problem solved! No more passenger seat rides getting him in trouble...

Tomorrow I may start my own Shaw & Didak thread...afterall, we can never have too many! ;)

Re: DIDAK and SHAW

Didaka has it spot on.
I still concede the whole thing was and still is a media beat-up.
It was a case of two players, one drink driving for which he copped a far stiffer penalty than any other of the multitude of AFL player over the years in similar circumstances.
Didak was in the car and has copped a penalty enormous out of proportion with his crime!....farc me...let's hang him.

The lying issue was totally an in house matter and should have been dealt with as such.
The club's initial response is the root cause of the circus that followed and face saving become the main focus in drafting the penalties.

I follow the club and have to accept the decision.
There is no way the club can go back on a decision which it decided to broadcast to the world and then proceeded to make a "moral" issue.
There is no way out which will not leave the club open to scathing and warranted criticism for having double standards and little backbone.

I cannot wait until this is a non-issue, after our last game of the year, be it next weekend or the GF.

The club made it's bed....end of story.

Re: DIDAK and SHAW

In change room the country over you see signs plastered up with words like
"Courage" "Commitment" etc.

In the Media Center and Board rooms at CFC we should have a nice big one which reads
"The Club will make no comment on the allegations until we have completed a full investigation and know the true facts of the matter! Next question!"

Didak and Shaw for finals

I saw a brief clip on the news of shane o'bree at the airport and it sounded like he was asked if the boys could be given a reprieve for the finals and he said they hadn't discussed it but he didnt rule it out. Has anyone heard anything on this subject?

An NRL player a week ago or so was charged of glassing his gf in the eye - she might even loose the eye - and then went on and told his club a lie about the whole thing.

Have only heard about the NRL incident twice since it happened. Jack all exposure in the media, and they burn Didak for JACK SH*T!!!!:thumbsd:

Makes me furious thinking about, so im just going to stop now :(

I got into an argument about it yesterday with a mate. Its never ending, if these players played for anyone else it would have gotten a back page and 10 minutes on footy classified, whereas because it was high profile Collingwood players, 4 weeks later we are still talking about it.

He was disliked because he plays for Collingwood, is a very good player for Collingwood, and is adored by the Collingwood public. Same as why Buckley figured in most hated polls. Anyone with half a brain could work that one out. And what kind of a poll is it when The Herald Sun nominates roughly 14 players and i am supposed to choose from those? The players i hate weren't even on the list.

This is the first mention of it on bigfooty. Kudos.
