I'd throw in Wingard - in addition to Gray - to get the Gorringe deal done.

Not going to be popular but I would trade Gray for Gorringe

Hang on, I never said give him away for nix. We all are saying we will get polec and gorringe a for second rounder yet collapse at the thought of losing out on a player that clearly isn't up to it just cos he is a first rounder. I said we need to get around a pick 20 to score gorringe. That is them losing out, he was pick 11 himself. Then we look to get that pick 20 ish with butcher. That is us losin out but we haven't really as we have effectively swapped 2 players that were of similar value.
Lets state facts with butcher. He can't mark at the moment, he can't kick over a jam tin. His kicking will never improve. His laconic attitude will never change.
"Facts".
You're wrong on so many levels.
We don't need another young ruckman as much as we need a young KPF. Gorringe would be behind Lobbe and Redden next year, Butcher is our 2nd best KPF. Even if they are of similar trade value, they are of very, very different value to our club at the present time.
Distance isn't an issue with Butcher's kicking, and how on earth can you say it will never improve? He doesn't have to be Stuey Dew, he just needs to relax and get into a good routine. Warren Tredrea, Matthew Richardson, Nick Riewoldt and Travis Cloke are other KPFs who have or have had suspect set shot kicking actions during their careers and managed to be incredibly successful.
Justin Westhoff is another player who has been accused his entire career of having a laconic attitude, and is now one of our most important players and a dead set match winner.
Butcher just needs time. A 21yo KPP who has had a horrible run with injury and hasn't had a preseason is underperforming. Throwing the baby out with the bathwater helps no one.

I think Lobbe showed plenty in 2011 before geting injured.
Brogan, Primus and Lade never played well with all three playing, and no side in the league plays three genuine ruckmen in this day and age.
Lobbe was drafted as a KPF but has developed into a ruckman in time. We haven't rushed him, we've let him develop and he hasn't shown an awful lot until half way through this season, in his 6th season and at 23 years of age. Redden has played some good footy but hasn't shown any level of dominance or consistency yet. Until the last couple of weeks, getting beaten in the ruck has been the norm for a year and a half.
These guys will come good in time. They showed signs, we persisted, and they have started to come good.
As will Butcher if afforded the same opportunity.
You absolutely do not trade away highly rated, first rounder talls before they've had a chance to establish themselves. If we've hung onto Daniel Stewart for this long, we can hang onto Butcher for a couple more years to give him an injury free chance to put on some size, get fit and establish himself.
I am not entirely sure but I think both Polec and Thompson would have similar stats at the same stage of their careers.I'm pretty sure Polec has a bit of an attitude issue doesn't he? Also he doesn't have the runs on the board Thompson had on requesting to come home.

EDIT: I did see Polec play some SANFL thanks to the ABC and IIRC he is a very good user of the ball, I am not sure that has ever been said about Thompson.

Agree that it's been a big over-reaction, but I'd love to see us address our needs at CHF/FF and a pacy midfielder. We lost a game. Apparently the sky is falling.
