Maybe Webster should get picked ahead of Green, but it's really contextless numbers. Webster's bowling for example is not actually all that good, but he was able to bowl to tail-enders in winning positions of crap decks. Do we really value his bowling when he took 2/8 in offspin in Sri Lanka when SL were only 30 runs ahead 7 wickets down and he got the number 8 and 10 out? How is that valuable when Duckett, Crawley and Bethell are lofting you over your head for six? If Green and Webster were currently in the same team Webster wouldn't even be bowling any overs that Green himself would otherwise bowl. While I agree with many of the points that you have made, I think that apart from Weatherald's struggles & Labuschagne's significant collapse in batting form, the number one concern for me is Cameron Green. If you compare his statistical output compared to Beau Webster over the last 7 Tests that both have played (before Melbourne), Green's batting average is 22 while Webster's is 34.6. On the bowling front over the same number of Tests, Green has taken 2 wickets at an average of 79. In contrast, Webster has taken 8 wickets at 23.3. Given that both are very comparable in fielding & catching abilities, I think that Webster must be given a game in Sydney. Moreover while he does not have the upper speed threshold of Green, Webster can offer both medium pace & off-spin options. I would be interested to see what others think. Goodbye & good luck.

Time for an intervention. That’ll do it.

South Africa is apparently 3 Test and 3 ODIs in Sep/Oct 2026I've found this image being shared by a few cricket fan accounts - can't verify its validity

The 150th test will run from 11th -> 15th March
Hes lucky mcsweeney is injured but id drop him and pick renshaw anyway.I agree but there's no option that has been better than him in the shield
Gabba then because Perth will make more coinGabba isn't being demolished until after the Olympics, it will between them and Perth who miss out.
Warner got one outside the ashes.
The ashes is a different game
I can't believe the poor quality of cricket in this series. We all waited so long for this?
I'm glad Australian has won Ashes, but the series itself has been eminently forgettable for the most part.
Won't happen, they will back most in for the 5th test. The next series is so far off they can pick them again as current form will be irrelevant.
That would make sense to have tests too although that’s a shocking time of year lol. Summer looks a little empty otherwise especially to be pissing off to India JanuarySouth Africa is apparently 3 Test and 3 ODIs in Sep/Oct 2026
Head’s tons and Root’s drought breaker the only really memorable moments?I can't believe the poor quality of cricket in this series. We all waited so long for this?

We won’t give up our summer of cricket so South Africa can’t host us during peak summer. That would make sense to have tests too although that’s a shocking time of year lol. Summer looks a little empty otherwise especially to be pissing off to India January
Starc's first two Tests?Head’s tons and Root’s drought breaker the only really memorable moments?

Englands had Australia and IndiaHas Sri Lanka been confirmed? I can't find our 2027/28 summer opponents (although two vs them and three vs South Africa/Pakistan would make sense).Pretty sure it's New Zealand, then followed by Sr Lanka.
Yep, it's hard for younger fans to appreciate, just as it's hard for us older fans to grasp contemporary cricket, but it is difficult to watch Test Cricket these days. Throughout this series, I have happily wandered off and missed parts of the Test whereas in years gone by I would have been glued to the TV.For those of us who grew up watching test cricket (in my case from as early as the 70s) to see what we've seen in the last couple of days is really dispiriting. Having watched two 2 days tests this series makes it doubly so.
If you're younger than me and have been fed a diet of express cricket, good luck to you. I can understand you guffawing at has-beens like me. But personally, I hate that a game can be done in two days. I hate the lack of application. The wild swinging of the bat. The dancing up the pitch from ball one.
I know there are many reasons for test cricket's decline. But I will never forgive people like Brendan McCullum who see themselves as the saviours of test cricket, and who will see today as some kind of victory. When in fact, I believe he is killing the game that I love so much.
