Science/Environment The Carbon Debate, pt III

Illuminating that any offshore oil platform being built has provisions included to allow for effects from climate change.

They will spend millions convincing us it doesnt exist and millions more to mitigate its effects on their expensive operations.

Whats even funnier is nitwits on forums defending them for free. Faaark at the very least you should get 8c off per litre.

I'm reflecting public opinion, not politics ... rephrase it for you, science has not made its case public.

you'll have to elaborate what you mean. science's failure to "make its case to the public" is hardly the reason for the partisan ignorance to which i originally objected.

Sculpture - Politicians Debating Climate Change

Apologies if it has been posted already.

The Labor/Green coalition in Australia has declared war on coal, oil and gas. So why is Big Mining not fighting back?

BHP Billiton is a big producer of coal, oil, gas, iron ore, copper, nickel and uranium. Rio Tinto is a big producer of uranium, coal, iron ore, copper and aluminium. Glencore is a big producer of coal, copper, zinc and nickel. And Shell is big in oil, gas and bitumen, manufactures biofuels, and generates peak power with natural gas.

I think this issue is missed by many.

They over look the inputs that go into renewable energy infrastructure which supports broadening the mining industry rather than limiting it.

Further, as traditional power generation still has to operate to support renewables to deliver the reliablity required. Coal and more likely gas still enjoy a rosy future, with ever increasing demand.

Worse, the inputs into renewables are laced or reliant on toxic chemicals. Meaning we are creating the world's largest environmental disaster in the history of man in the manufacturing process.........that's why solar panels are pretty much only manufactured in china. As china ignores the health and environmental standards.

Then in 10-20 years time, we will have to create special waste dumps and create areas that we accept will be toxic waste lands for thousands of years. It will be interesting to understand how these chemicals will be kept out of the ground water.

It is a shame people don't hold renewables to the level of scrutiny as other industries. In the meantime, mining will happily supply the demands.

No-one is thinking globally.
If you spend the energy to liquefy natural gas for export, and the carbon footprint of the liquification.

Without doing the calculations , i think that hazelwood powering an iron mine and a steel manufacturing plant, would be better than the combined carbon output of mining, shipping to china then producing steel.

Lftr....

Thorium reactors

Can even be used to process uranium reactor waste

Are you asleep? been a coma the last 20 years? No interesting current affairs ? don't watch the news? read newspapers?

Big Mining does quite nicely and it's fightback has gone extremely well thank you overmuch. Who do you think funds the radical dumb types who wont let Turnbull do anything sensible? Why do you think a Ian McFarlane is being looked after very nicely?

Did you find any evidence yet? It was hotter in the 1880's then it is now. No increase in natural disasters. Average temps around the world haven't increased since the late 90's. :drunk:
In other news, Asbestos doesn't cause cancer, cigarettes are healthy, vaccines kill, fluoride in water is just a big con to improve the bottom line of a couple of companies.
Did you know that 99.9% of the worlds scientists are involved in a massive communist conspiracy whilst simultaneously working for a handful of multination to make themselves all billionaires?
Luckily we've got some clever people who know what's really going on.
And no, they're not bogan idiots who keep falling for the same con time and again who we should all point and laugh at. They know the truth because ummmmmm. They just do. We should ignore the science and listen to the followers of the Andrew Bolts of this world. For our own good.

These couple of links explain it better than I can.

Professor Bob Carter, a climate expert who passed away in January this year, would like to debunk the voodoo science that has corrupted your brain

Like I said. You're not an idiot bogan who's been conned. You actually know much, much more about this stuff than all the combined knowledge of the worlds experts.
Look at what some horrible ignorant people who probably don't even listen or watch or read Andrew Bolt have said about this brilliant geologist and the alleged "myths" he peddles.

And just because This great man was paid by interests groups to misrepresent the science, doesn't mean he misrepresented the science.
Luckily the really clever people in this world understand this and will thus believe absolutely anything this genius has told them without question.

Carter's own website claimed, as recently as 2012, that he received no funding from "special interest organisations", but this was shown to be untrue with the release of private Heartland Institute documents in February 2012, which showed Carter was funded by this one front group alone to the tune of approximately $20,000 annually. Carter brushed off the revelation with the statement that being truthful about one's funding is "a very quaint and old fashioned practice".

Bob Carter used to work for the CSIRO until they sacked him for his views on climate change. Apparently, fraudulent research will guarantee you a job with organisations like this. Especially in regards to voodoo science.
