What do you make of the supposed call, that we are the only team not playing a zone defence? Is it true, are we a pioneer or are we stupid?

We are stupid, isn't any pioneering in what we do.. :sadv1:
Zone defence allows for locking the ball in, team work and less structure failures..

The man on man defence, kills you if you have any breakdown or ball watchers (Plowman & Jones)
Because all teams are that highly skilled to find the lose man, they just cut you to bits and expose your midfield and defence on turnover..

Our 3 lines seem to have no cohesion and all work independently..
The game plan is a shambles at the moment.. But is so close to being something special.

Personally I'd look hard at Melbourne for defensive structure and Sydney for Defensive attack..
I'm also a fan of Teague's speed in the ball approach.. But we need Plan B, to learn to slow it down
and maintain possession when getting pressured with momentum swings..

If Teague could make those tweaks he could make us an awesome team..
But for a Defender as a player, he seems to totally disregard defence and wants full on shoot outs :confusedv1:
(unless it's a learning curve to score more)

Do you stop playing your gameplan because you're not currently able to execute it?
Absolutely , a gameplan/strategy you havent got the resources to execute is pretty much useless imo.

A gameplan/strategy needs to make the most of what you have got.

Is there no mitigating factor in there? What if the reason you cannot execute your gameplan is down to the injuries to key players you have out?

Where do you draw the line, is I suppose what I'm asking.

Yeah fair question.

There’s 2.5 mins to go in the Poet v Bulldogs game in Adelaide. The Bulldogs are 20 points up and home. they beat us by less than that. Maybe Teague is on the money when he repeatedly says that our team has ability. But we need to strengthen our defensive play.
Which defenders from other clubs do we need?

Michael's team fought out another win today against Ormeau.
He had 6 marks and 3 tackles as a forward. Was a bit unlucky was about to kick his first goal but a free kick was played to his teammate.
One of the Ormeau players got stuck into him and he gave a bit back and then ran back to position, the Ormeau players shoved him in the back and he won a free kick for his team.
Little man ran his arse off all day putting pressure on the Ormeau defenders and ended up getting player of the match.
Super proud and a bunch of parents were full of praise for his efforts.
Love seeing him belong and invested in such a great little team.
Sorry for the long text but I'm buzzing for him.
Thanks for coming John & Julie to support him.❤️

Just found this , someone is confident . 😂
Would be the biggest comeback in a season to win a premiership since we did it in 1945.
Three wins in opening 9 rounds and also a 100 point loss in round 3.

Oh I'm sorry my bad...
Richmond's own website must have got it wrong :winkv1:

Thanks for that; didn't see the transition to defense in 2019.

What did he do there that was so groundbreaking, though? Didn't he just perpetuate the pre-existing status quo: pressure upfield to generate the long high ball, intercept and flick out the vacant wing as quickly as possible?

If we're pinching someone from Richmond, I want McQualter, their stoppage and setup coach, because that's where we're lacking.

Not really telling us anything we don't already know, beyond the added 'Petracca will be licking his lips' and the 'Melbourne midfielders smarting after' stuff.
Just confirms, with some level of stats, that the defense of our clearances is unwarranted. The setup doesn't work at all and it's the worst I've seen it ever as a blues supporter. Laying blame is hard but the person directly responsible has to take the brunt.

Clearly nothing to do with our coaches or system though...

Stats don't tell the whole story, and I rely mostly on my eyes at the ground to shape my thoughts. The Collingwood game has turned me off attending another live match this season until the whole group (players and coaches) prove they have turned things around.
So ugly watching also 🥲
