I think Setanta was pretty good at something resembling it.

You aren't supposed to hit each other with the sticks in lacrosse... at least thats what a mate of mine told me. However, hurling is something different... the old footage before they made the players wear helmets with masks... you would often see teeth flying across the green of the pitch

More don't than do, there are always examples of the teams that do.

Hence showing it can be done if you have a smart switched on recruiting team with a strategy that fits list management for short and long term.

They have actually recruited well over the last 5 years...we've been abysmal

Dogs haven't won anything yet, best to reserve judgement on the success of their drafting until they do.

2010 rookie draft picked Dahlhaus and Johannisen. Fair effort there on it's own.
Father-Son picks Mitch Wallis and Libba2 as father son picks for picks 22 and 44 is pretty fortunate.

2011
pick 17 Clay Smith and Tory Dickson pick 57 also fair effort.
Pre-season draft grabbed Fletcher Roberts and project types of Lin Jong, Tom Campbell and Jack Redpath all in rookie draft.

2012 Stringer pick 5, Macrae pick 6, Koby Stevens pick 43 and Lachie Hunter pick 49 is another draft period you would have to call on plus side for third year in a row. Hunter at pick 49 is serious good value on it's own.

2014
pick 26 Toby McLean and pick 46 Caleb Daniel.
Still early days for those two but gee, still ready to already call that another win at draft table five years in a row.

Next season they made finals in a cracker of a game with Crows.

2015 draft period
pick 25 Josh Dunkley (played well today)
pick 26 Kieran Collins
pick 35 Marcus Adams (great get)
pick 48 Bailey Williams

2016 they presently in the top 4 and I reckon a good 75% of the team is created from these 5 draft periods.

I do not know about you but I call that drafting more than just well over last 5 years.

Same period we were using our draft picks to flush down the toilet and only got Cripps really to show as one clear cut positive tick of use.
To say I am happy we got rid of the past recruiters to appoint SOS with an actual strategy would be an understatement. Over the bloody moon the nightmare of idiots before are gone.

I will however say Dogs in my opinion paid overs for Tom Boyd however the rumours abound that decision of big bucks splashed was coming from over the recruiters head. They need Tom Boyd to turn into what Alistair Lynch did for Lions to make a win on that trade and pick given away of pick 6.
Their drafting people can not really be faulted.
To me what they done at draft table ranks up there with what the guy Wells did at Geelong a good decade or so ago.
Incredibly they have drafted the influx of talented youth over five years with only three of those picks being really early picks.
They got themselves into a position of being in the mix with the top of ladder teams now.
Considering all the early picks given to Gold Coast and GWS in same period they have been the champs at draft table in recent history in terms of getting maximum value for the picks they had on draft days.

Now those of you that wanted to reserve judgement only after they won a grand final have now got your doubting Thomas period over.

What a game by young Boyd too.
Two years ago some assumed they were in total chaos but the list development was already on track and brilliant the people in charge did not lose their shit on big picture when Griffen went but instead turned the bad news into an opportunity to get more young talent in.
I still think the money for Boyd was too much but least they got one premiership so far with this group , which given that club has only won one flag before is probably a win in their eyes.

Peeps arguing about guessing where X will be drafted. The reality is the draft is a pinball machine so it's virtually impossible to guess how the numbers will fall, which makes all the tooing and frooing an utter waste of time.

IMO the bigger picture is ... bigger picture. Tell me then, in YOUR words, where are we at?

We just come out of this red room when Malthouse left.
However 3 minutes 33 seconds, looking at that painting was as eerie to me as when I heard Malthouse appointed coach.
He might aswell have been Bob for what it did to my mental state in that time.


However we are now at a stage of meeting Audrey Rose at end of 2016.
Thank god Bob is gone forever.
