Tuggeranong has just experienced it 10th consecutive morning of below zero temperatures, this morning being the coldest getting down to -5.7.

The BOM is predicting our next three mornings will also start below zero before we have a scorching 5 degree morning on Tuesday, meaning we will fall a little short of our record of 15 consecutive mornings below zero from 2007.

Our mean for month to date is a balmy -1.6. :)

It’s pretty cold in Melbourne but I definitely don’t miss working at 7am in Canberra. Mate said it felt like -8.8 over night last week.

I’ve had to go to Canberra for work today and tomorrow.

The early Australian politicians who decided to make this the location of the capital shows that the political class of this country have always had a screw loose.

I've always had a theory that if you want to find your local council offices you start with the ugliest building in the area and work from there, Canberra is that on an industrial scale.

It was all a bit random. There was an argument between Melbourne and Sydney about where the capital should be so they agreed it should be somewhere in-between. But not near the coast so it was protected from imagined naval attacks. The selection committee were getting around in horse-drawn carriages. One the day they went to Orange it was blanketed in thick fog so they ruled it out.

I used to go there for work a bit, campaigner of a joint, it has no "feel", a soulless place.

Waiting for this predicted 'warm winter' to start kicking in.
It's already here. The average high for June was higher than average. On the other side the low for the month was lower than average.

So mornings were colder than normal but days were warmer than normal.
