any fans? lately i have just had an obsession with them, Jim Morrison has the best voice. Just interested to see what people thought of them and what their fav song was etc.

Reckon they went on a huge renaisannce about 15 or so years ago, possibly around the time of the movie and re release of Greatest Hits, when a lot of people rediscovered them or discovered them for the first time. Have fallen a little bit off the radar again since then and are definately a notch below the Beatles, Rolling Sones, Zep and Floyd in terms of breadth of work, longevity in public's adoration and fan fanaticism.

My favourite band off all time, love Jim Morrison and the whole way he went about his music. Shattered I never had the chance to see them live.

Top 5 songs would go

1. The End
2. Light My Fire
3. L.A Women
4. Riders on the Storm
5. Roadhouse Blues

1. The End
2. LA Woman
3. Roadhouse Blues
4. When The Musics Over
5. Riders On The Storm

I love'm.. Discovered them early last year..

It's hard to go past the greats like Light My Fire and Riders On The Storm..

But some of there lesser known songs are soooooooo good.

1. The Crystal Ship - "Before you slip into unconsciousness/I'd like to have another kiss" Brilliant opening lines of a song. Up with my very favourite opening line.
2. Indian Summer - "IiiiiiIIIIIIIiiiii Love you.... The best..... Bet-ter.... then all the rest......" I relate to that sooo much as a guy who loves girls but doesn't want to settle for just one...
3. Queen of the Highway - "He was a monster... Black...Dressed in leather... She was a princess.... queen of the highway..." Love it! :)
4. Waiting for the sun - Sooooo fun to sing a long with...
5. Yes, The river knows - Again.. So fun to sing along with..

You're doing Jim Morrison a disservice if you just stick to best of's...

The quality is there throughout the albums...

i reckon my favourite song is L.A women, but i also love The End,Love her Madly Break on Through and Roadhouse Blues, I pretty much love all their songs lol

Whilst I do enjoy the big hits & mega-well known tracks, some of my most favourite Doors tracks are actually the ones that didn't receive all of the airplay, moreso just album tracks that you won't hear unless you buy the individual albums.

Awesome band, one i'll never tire of.

Morrisons's voice is for me captivating, there's something about it that draws me.

One song I really love but rarely gets mentioned in discussions about the Doors is the Alabama Song.

Jolly good version of the song.

the doors are a great f***ing band,l got into to them back in the day before l had a CD player.l have most of the album's on tape and when l got a CD player.the doors album's Morrison hotel and LA woman were the first CD'S l brought.they have many great songs the band wasn't around that long with Jim but there released alot of music my fav's are Riders on the Storm,LA woman.love her madly.the run'in blues.the soft parade the song when pam is giving jim a blow job in the movie, it's strange that no one alive has seen jim morrison body after he died..

also the movie 'the Door's is effing brilliant any Doors fan who hasnt seen it i highly recomend you do soo immediatley

i must be one of the few people who doesn't rate them. maybe it's just jim morrison's lyrics; to me they seem so contrived, he's like a faux-poet, ambiguous for the sake of being ambiguous.
i agree with whoever said "the doors" is a great film though, val kilmer's best work imo.

I love them. They were completely original, invented their own sound and had a genius poet for a songwriter.

.... I used to think it was great but through reading I discovered that it basically portrayed Jim as a buffoon. Reading stuff by the surviving members (minus John Densmore) I find the movie basically unwatchable.

For me I should recommend the Box Set from a few years ago for anyone who is looking to get into em in a big way. Live versions of the songs are :thumbsu: and Jim is shown to be a master storyteller.

.... and ray still doesn't believe he died and will return from the swamps of Brazil. I like the idea myself:)

Peace Frog is another ripping song. Morrison Hotel is a terrific album IMO.

Big fan of the Doors since I discovered them as a teenager about 15 years ago. My fave of all time is Wishful Sinful. Just a beautiful song. But they have some rocking song like LA Woman, Roadhouse Blues, Peace Frog, My Eyes Have Seen You amongst others. And some fun tracks like Land Ho! and Ship of Fools (probably my second favourite).

Any Doors fans out there, do yourselves a favour and check out When You're Strange, a new doco on the band. Johnny Depp narrates it. Top stuff with a lot of rare footage.
