why is it that when everybody talks about the draft all they ever talk about is the division one players and teams. See none of you guys realise that clubs dont only look for talent and yes most of the kids in Div one are more talented than division two, but the kids in divison two in most cases well Qld mainly all play senior footy and that is why they played so well in the tac cup cause they were more physically there. now im not saying that the kids in div two are better than div one caus they arent im just saying that Div two players play senior footy and are better for it. And when guys make there picks on the phantom drafts that there will definatelt be a few smokeys from QLD and other div two states.

We don't forget Div 2 when doing the Phantom Draft and to be honest I saw more of the Div 2 teams than I did of the SA and WA kids. I think they were fairly judged this year in the Trial Draft.

Also QLD didn't perform that well this year at all. In their three TAC Cup games they beat Eastern (before they started their run) and Sandy (last) and they lost to the Knights by about ten goals. They also lost all of their games at the Champs didn't they? There's a few kids I rate individually from QLD but it's not like you can use QLD's record this year to back yourself up.

yeh thats true but you didnt see any off the kids when they came back from the champs that played againgst full grown men as they would playing at the best level on the big stage. when Most of the Qld kids came back they dominated at there senior club. Zorko was nearly best on every game he played bit small though Reid was killing it beofre he got injured Joey Daye was playing well, Darin stewart aaron rolfe. players like this would have to be considered shorely. Reid before the champs was easily going to be top twenty through the champs he did well to even get himself able to play as he was injured.

Div 2 just happens not to be a strong field this year - It's not that we're ignoring it.

Queensland doesn't have any first round prospects - The best is Sam Reid, who's likely a 2nd round pick.

NT has Cyril Rioli in the 1st round mix, and perhaps Marlon Motlop on the bubble.

NSW has Craig Bird and Taylor Walker, but they're both scholarship players.

Tom Collier and Tom Bellchambers from Tassie have had their share of discussion.

Basically, they've been discussed, but realistically, the pointy end of the draft is going to be WA and Vic dominated.

Yeah, I see what you're saying brissyboy but on exactly the same note you would have no idea how good the Vic boys have been playing down here since the Champs. Dare I say, since you're from QLD that you haven't seen any of them this year except maybe the Metro vs. WA game on Fox, so if that's the case you can't really compare Div 2 players to Div 1 players accurately anyway.

I know that I've had a decent sample of some Div 2 teams and I'm sure some others on BigFooty have seen just as much or more than I managed while they were hanging around Victoria. They all played six or seven games each in Victoria this year and I know I got to a decent amount of them, but that certainly doesn't mean that we might not have under-rate some of them. At the end of the day, that's not enough games to base your entire opinion on players and recruiters might have more in mind - so there may be some much higher on recruiters lists than what we have on BigFooty. But like VV says, this doesn't seem like the best crop to come from Div 2 in recent years.

IMO - Div 2 was absolutely terrible this year. Comparing the standard to last year, the difference was HUGE.

Actually Queensland was the biggest dissapointment for me. Some real project players but that was about it. Either short people who were to small and slow or some very RAW KP prospects that will take a shit load of time.

It is BECAUSE these borderline prospects are dominating in the QAFL that the QAFL is lowly rated.

In contrast you get guys like Ryan Anderson, Dean Kelly and co who were TAC Cup stars who are unable to force their way out of the VFL reserves.

Darrin Stewart is the worst kick of a football I have ever seen, and Joey Daye has ahtlecism and nothing else. The better they go the worse the league must be.

Very harsh Weaver. Would you put the AFLQ below TAC cup? The point I think the OP was making was that basing assessment on how a team performs (rather than it's individuals) is sometimes not the only way to judge a player.

Would Reid, Whitecross and others be rated if the Queensland team had better depth across the board this year and performed better? Doesn't make them any better or worse a player, but having better support might make them look to be better.

Not that I agree so much with the assessment of Daye and Stewart as showing dominant form in the AFLQ. Zorco certainly, Ben Gibson and a few of the Zillmere boys have put together some good form.

But I agree with most of the replies in this thread. I think Qld players have been assessed but pretty much dismissed. I'm of the opinion that they're usually project players anyway and are rated on potential a bit too much. I think what people have assessed in the trial run of the phantom draft is pretty much on the mark.

2 Players that have not been metioned and will get drafted or Rookied are Daniel Stewart (18yrs old) and Matthew Clarke (21 yrs old) from Labrador. Both played in the Qld Open State side and in the Allies match last week. Clarke won the NAB Rising Star award with Stewart runner up. Both are in the AFLQ Velocity Sports Team of the Year. Stewart 198 cm CHF and Clarke 189cm Winger. Neither has been talked about but the recruiters are certainly talking about them. Both will be smokies. Team of the Year was:

B: Josh Vearing (MtG), Daniel Poynton (MtG), Tom Tarrant (M side);
HB: Darryl White (MtG), Shane Morrison (MtG), Damien Bonney (M side);
C: Mat Clarke (Lab), David Lillico (M side), David James (S port);
HF: Daniel Wise (S port), Kent Abey (M side), Austin Lucy (Zillmere);
F: Hayden Wilson (M side), Ben McEntee (S port), Ash Evans (MtG);
R: Cameron Wood (SCL), Aaron Shattock (Lab), Mick Stinear (MtG);
INT: Daniel Stewart (Lab), Todd Featherstone (Lab), Daniel Dzufer (SCL), Nikos Kiem (Zillmere).

My sources say draft not rookie.
