I went and saw The Exorcist at the movies the other night. I had never seen it before and I thought I should check it out. I thought it was going to be your "Nightmare on Elm street" type horror film, but I was staggered to learn that it ws nominated for 10 academy awards and won 2. It freaked me out a bit, but I liked it.

What does everyone else think of it?

None of you guys are old enough to have seen the Exorcist when it first came out. I took my girlfriend, who later became my wife, to the Drive In in my panel van, complete with matress and trimmings, this was the 1970's, it was the first time we actually watched a picture at the Drive In.
Freaky man

Yeah I've seen the Exorcist, and am a big wrap for it. The sequels ... well ... those didn't impress me.

I don't know how different the Director's Cut is.

It's comforting to grab a horror movie, expecting bosh and balls, and to be pleasantly disturbed by a good scare. I still rate Amityville Horror as my biggest scare, although mind you, I used to hide behind the bean bag while watching Dr Who ... that was a while ago, though.

Saw the Shining for the first time not long ago, and that disappointed me a little. It's certainly each to their own, we all have different tastes. I loved Blair Witch, scared the sheizenhausen out of me, but many bill it as utter crapola.

*shrug* it's whatever works for you, really, isn't it?

What were you doing watching the movie anyway As LOL, must have been a long movie. The drive ins were sensational and its sad theres not many around in Melbourne anymore. The stories we could tell..........

I seen The Exorcist in the 70's and the director's cut last weekend, I am not sure if I can stomach watching Caroline tonight as well.

He he. The exorcist isn't exactly the type of movie that warrants a make out session. But then again, all those scary things might just warrant a bit of "cuddling up" from the person next to you.

As for American Pie..... now there is a funny movie!!

Dan i gotta agree with you. Its the only horror movie that has genuinely scared me. After i watched that for the first time i felt really uneasy and uncomfortable. I think ive only seen it maybe 3 or 4 times because its so damn scary.

The Exorcist (and The Omen also) scared me, but I still stand by my original comment, that Amityville was the scariest I had seen, notwithstanding some of the dialogue.

Actually my penchant is for Aussie (and Kiwi) flicks, anyway, but horror/fright is an area that we don't do all that well in. 'Cut', for instance, was a shambles, and we are shamed by productions such as Bloodlust and Blood Moon.

I prefer a good (sic!) Egglestone movie, Outback Vampires, Cassandra, Rock'n'roll Cowboys, Contagion (three of the aforegoing with Rampaging Roy Slaven playing the villain!) Very bad movies, but quite amusing.

Nah, we've got a couple of decent homegrown scarys, Long Weekend (funnily enough, also directed by Egglestone, in a rare diversion - quality) and In The Winter Dark are good fright flicks, although the former is half fright, half drama.

And who could forget the first video I had to grab from my collection the same day I took receip of new big TV ... Razorback! The pained call of Bill Kerr for his grandson just had to be seen and heard on a bigger screen. Fancy Mulcahy getting the music clip influence to work so well in Razorback, and then having the same nuance seem so cheesy in the pitiful remake of On The Beach.

On American Pie, I must admit that was a funny movie. Have we all yet noticed that the college movie has made a searing return to the screen, with a lot of crap (eg 10 Things I Hate About You) replacing the old 'Private Resort' type flick, and a couple of good ones (eg American Pie) assuming the role that Ferris Bueller took on in the eighties.

Another full circle.

Pretty average. May fit into a Halloween playlist. But in reality, of all exorcism performed By Christian priests, they fail. So they hire in male witches mostly. There's a good autobiography of an experienced exorcist.

There is alot of truth in this movie. Shit can get that real.
