Nations providing Australia with permanent migrants in 2014-2015 were India and China.

2011 CO2 per capita numbers for Australia is 16.5t

Indians moving here are nearly 10x their per capita emissions back in India (1.7t)
Chinese people moving here more than double their emissions per capita from back in China (7.2t)

It highlights that as those two nations, particularly India have their population enjoy lifestyles closer to the west the less relevant Australia becomes globally.

India living like Australia, which they deserve to just as much as anyone else so there's no fault directed anywhere, multiplies their emissions by an order of magnitude - that takes them to more than twice China who is more than twice the next largest emitter.

Per Capita is just stupid.

When someone moves from india they don't suddenly start finding ways to emit CO2.

A gas drilling operation produces CO2 , lots of things produce CO2. Not necessarily people.
The opposite is also true. What is the biomass per capita in Australia?

They do. They consume more energy here because our lifestyle is more luxurious. But that isn't the context of the comment I was making.

Here is why your per capita stuff is brain dead. Just one example.

Australia has a blast furnace , it uses X tonnes of Coal per tonne of steel and is a major emitter in Australia.
Someone then divides the CO2 through the population , adding it to the population.

Then immigrants come and you say they will automatically have the same per capita CO2 emissions.

But now we close the blast furnace.
We ship the coal and ore to china , that puts out heaps of emissions, but no-one counts it because the ship is registered to some weird African nation.
The Chinese make coal. Per Capita the output of the blast furnace is negligible.
But per capita in australia , the change is much greater. We improve.

The actual Emissions go up. But everyone looking at per capita is happy.

Its bloody global , and we need to focus on major sources of emissions not this "everyone do their own bit " stupidity.

No. How does global mass extinction and global warming etc slow down if we have 300,000 less migrants here than overseas?

Those people dont magically cease to exist, eat, consume and pollute just because they're overseas, or on the other side of a dotted line drawn on a map.

Sounds like we dont need to bother reducing our carbon pollution.

Because you know, so many other places are way worse.

No, because our % of global emissions is so small it wont make any difference to global temperatures.

Such a shame when science destroys your argument.

.

I can make suggestions for other solutions that would actually benefit Australia, as well as impacting global emissions, but probably not Australian emissions so much.
You wouldn't like them because its more about Politics .
Doing your bit...is pointless. Pissing on a bushfire.

Outsourcing our emissions to China doesn't help anyone

There are ways to measure consumption emissions vs production emissions. This is not something experts find challenging.

Banff and his mates mustn't be experts then. They think the Australian PM has the ability to launch some policy that will make the Bushfires go away.
