Brad Dick.

From the (brief) glimpses we saw last year, I think he is an oft overlooked x-factor for our side moving forward. At his best, he has the potential to comlpiment our fleet of young tall forward options and be the quick, skilful, magic, defensive pressuring, permanent forward that we need.

But I fear, given his frame, he might struggle to make any sort of an impact next year coming back from injury, so we may not see him cement a spot in the seniors until 2010, when others may have gone past him.

I'm interested in everyone's thoughts on his future, and what he might have done this year if he didn't blow out his knee?

Are you talking about his frame as of the start of the year, or now?

He's been busying himself tucking into lunches at the Lexus Centre and bench-pressing with the best of them (85KG now if I heard right). Not quite Conan the Barbarian yet, but he's certainly bulked up.

I for one am awaiting the return of the 'modest' goal celebration from the big 'un and his pack-reading ability. One to watch for sure.

I seriously doubt if Brad will ever complete a season at senior level. His skills are as you mention but he is tiny. If he bulked up to twice his size he'd still be small - and as of last week, he hadn't added much. His legs are the skinniest things ever seen on a football field and he has hands like a spider monkey. He's just plain fragile - he's the only player I've ever seen who I've actually been frightened for. Forget the garbage "big pre-season in the gym" stuff - he is really delicately boned and his frame will never support "bulking up".

he hasn't bulked up much, i was in Lexus centre a month ago and he looked skinny as,
will have to work really hard, but he seemed fine playing during the pre-season, i still think he will play =]
looooooks very exciting!

I did a quick trawl through the Record just yesterday looking for players of a similar weight and in fact there are several, perhaps most notably both the brothers Aaron and Alwyn Davey. As I'd rate him a better kick than either of them, and that's just for starters, then I'd say he's definitely in with a chance.

Lovett goes alright and he's got chicken legs. Can actually kick at almost full pace too which would be nice if Dick could too.

perhaps he could be involved with a trade for Kerr, WA boy after all. Something to think about anways. I cant see him knocking anyone out of the forwardline. Hope im wrong but.

Brad has sublime skills but I was really disappointed with us taking another player of this type last year. We simply have too many flankers gone midfielders. If he makes it as a midfielder with his frame he would have to be very outside and as far as foward flanks go it doesn't matter how good they are we seriously have too many.

Brad Dick was 64kg when he came to us. MM told him that he wanted him to reach between 74kg and 78kg.
Just checked on the Pies web site and he's now listed at 76kg... an increase of 12kg, not too shabby! That's near as damnit to a 20% increase

Yes RRRooocccaaa, you heard correctly. He can now bench press 85kg. Not too bad if you can bench one's own weight....I wish I could! :o

I wouldn't believe the Pies' website wrt weights/heights. They've been notoriously wrong over the years.

I have to admit I forgot him. He has possibly the best footskills at Collingwood - at least in the top 5 - won't forget that beautifully weighted 50m pass to lockyer at full pace going with the flight to kick a goal last year.

FWIW benching one's own bodyweight should be within most men's grasp within 6 months of training on a proper strength program. A good strong bench for an all round athlete is more like 1.5xbw. To put things into perspective - I remember reading Rhyce Shaw benches over 120kg. Tiger Woods reportedly benches 320lb (145kg). ...not that I think bench press is a particular good measure of strength for a footballer (compared with the back squat, deadlift or clean).

He'd be building up his core ctrength before all else. He may not look bigger next season, but he'll no doubt he stronger.

I'm a big fan of Brad Dick, but realistically he's almost as much a project player as Thoolen or Keeffe. He has the skills, no question, but putting together a whole season of quality is an ask. :(
