Thanks . It's annoying when AFL is in front of the name as the AFL is a brand , should be just NSW/ACT FL
Unfortunately if just “NSW/ACT FL” was used the average NSW sports fan wouldn’t know what the hell you were talking about. Whether we like it or not, for most people in NSW ‘AFL’ is the term used when referring to Aussie Rules (certainly never just ‘football’).

I feel for Jack as I genuinely think he is good enough to be an AFL footballer. He got really unlucky with his ACL and then when we could have fit him in the team he was off for personal reasons after one of his parents died.
I thought so too. He was a very good lock down defender at NEFL level. Played on some very good players and never them get out of hand. I remembering him playing a game on Cameron and Patton at different times when they were coming back from injury. Everyone thought they would get hold of him but they never did.

He played on Wright, Hopwood, Day and Darren Hewing and kept them all quiet.

I agree. There are some leagues in Tassie and Victoria that are dropping their affiliation with the AFL as they are dying because of it. The teams in the TFL which is now, AFL Tasmania, are pretty angry with the way it is run. Basically the AFL appoint a CEO and the clubs have no say. I know the war of the Maple (between North & South) has been a ongoing problem for Tassie. But surely the attitude of AFL.com journalists to the Tasmania government's push for a team is a good indication Tassie should cut ties, with the AFL.

The AFL has treated the Sydney FL, NSW Australian Rules Association very badly too. I think Grass Roots footy everywhere suffers if it is controlled by the AFL. In SA & WA grassroots football is controlled by the SANFL & WAFL respectively and 2 years ago the SANFL got over 50,000 to it's SANFL Grand Final. So grassroots footy is healthy there.

I think anyone with a brain knew Aliir would be really good. Swans didn't want him to leave but he got a better deal elsewhere.

Its a shame, and would of tried to keep him over Hickey, but I don't know the inside story.

Aliir dominates as the loose man against last years wooden spooners. He’s a decent player but most clubs worked out that if you make him accountable in defence he’s less effective. McCartin looked better than him yesterday.

Aliir will look excellent in one of the best teams in the comp. He looked nowhere near as good in one of the worst over the last 2 years.

Given we're still going to be developing over the next year or two and therefore less in a position to help him play his best footy, I'm fine with him leaving for a 4 year deal. No hard feelings whatsoever.

Lets see him do it for a lot of games first too. He's had these "good" games for us too. What he didn't do was perform at that level consistently.

So Aliir had a good game in a pre-season match against probably the worst side in the league? Tell me more....

I hope Aliir has a good career with Port but I think we need a little more of a sample before we say he's suddenly a champion player for them. He was always fantastic as a loose intercept player but he's very dubious when required to be accountable for his man. Let's see how he goes against better opposition. I do think if Port leave him to settle in a permanent role then he'll be all the better for it.

Port has a role for Aliir which will suit him perfectly, that is playing the 3rd tall/loose in defence. He wasn't used correctly at the Swans and left for a better opportunity. Swans weren't going to play him in his best position, so it's no big loss to swans management.

Clearly we want Melican/McCartin to play FB/CHB and Rampe as the 3rd/loose or Mills as backup. Therefore no position for Aliir. He's a fantastic player when playing in his best position, like a lot of players if you play him out of position then he's less effective.

Even Fox took Aliir's spot last year

Aliir was played in the ruck due to our ruck/talls woes. IMO he's a great finishing piece to a premiership side but not a key piece. If that makes sense? lol
Against the Tigers in round 6 Aliir was dumped and we went with Fox being the tallest defender. Ruck injuries was the only thing which had Aliir playing senior footy at all
