Just saw on channel 7 a purported Richmond fan wearing a Pies scarf and saying he was for the Pies this granny. Must really hate us.

Just like in the 1990 grand final I supported Essendon, in 2002 and 2003 gf I was a lions fan, 2010 gf a saints fan and 2011 gf I barracked for the cats. This weekend I will barrack for the eagles with all my heart, I might even boo!

Funny that close grand finals are just as rare as close regular games - in a round of nine matches you might get one or two close finishes at best. That makes sense, as we see roughly only 1-3 close grannies in a decade.

The fact that the two grand final sides are theoretically close in brilliance doesn't seem to help. Time and again we've seen sides give up in the third or fourth, with the upcoming premiers having the time of their lives and piling on the goals.

The live cross is unfortunately going the way of the dodo. Instead of showing passionate fans barracking and jumping, nowadays Channel 7 prefers to use those fan shots for various celebrities/pollies sitting mildly amused in the corporate seats.

Last year Channel 7 showed Punt Road perhaps twice in the match, and in 2013 they showed the main street of Fremantle perhaps once.

We've been spoilt with quite a few close ones the past 18 years. Most of the 90s GFs were blowouts.
