Most definitely not a cheapo - which is what I thought he was before I watched him very closely for a fortnight. Led me to dish out a lot to get him, and couldn't be happier.
"Definitely" is a very strong word. He had 25 out of 31 uncontested possies on the weekend. He pushes back to defence alot just like K.Cornes and gets the majority of his touches there, though he is very good at the clearences.
Yeh Kornes is the cheapest dreamteamer

Yup im on the "I hate Jimmy Bartel" bandwagon. Cant wait for the week he gets less than 50 (if it happens) and 99% of the ****ers on here have a cry.

Bartel is an average player, he gets cheap possies across half back and doesnt hurt teams which is why he will never win a brownlow. yeah he might get the odd goal or two but its not that hard when your not gettin any respect from the opposition. If he was to ever get tagged by a sewell, rawlings, or a godfrey his scores would be prestigiacomo like.

The reason he is so good is he does everything.
He gets clerances, he takes contested grabs, racks up tackles, kicks goals and yes gets a few cheapies along the way.
Gary Ablett is the reason Bartel is doing so well, he draws the tag because he is exceptionally damaging when he gets the ball.

Its the mark of the man, and as DanA said: he does everything, one of those being clearances which I think are the least cheap stat you can get.
But doesnt toughness reflect on how he plays, I wouldnt be suprised if Jim has had over 80 contested possies this year.
