I think it was unfortunate that Nick hit his knee. He sorta grabbed him, then slung him to side.

Some non saints supporters think he should be rubbed out on the main board. But i personally don't think he should even be cited. Good tackle, just bad landing.

Ah cool, thanks for that. I am all for the rough stuff as long as its fair stuff.

From what I can gather our injury list is something like this:

Steven Baker - knock to knee, ?OK
Matt Maguire - foot injury, indefinite, 10+ weeks
Jayden Attard – ACL reconstruction, 7-9 weeks
Glenn Chivers – left foot injury, 5-7 weeks
Sam Gilbert – shoulder: grade 3 displaced AC joint, 5-7 weeks
Nick Riewoldt - Medial Ligament injury, 3-8 weeks
Xavier Clarke - hamstring, 2-3 weeks
Luke van Rheenen – mid foot ligament injury, 2-3 weeks
Luke Miles – stress fracture in fibula, 1-3 weeks
Steven King – hamstring, 1-2 weeks
Max Hudghton - back related hamstring, 1-2 weeks

Will Riewoldt really miss 8 weeks? I feel sorry for you guys you just have the worst luck with injuries.

Also, is there a split round this year? Because that's another week you could take off plus the DreamTeam/Victoria week this week.

What the ____?

Where did all that come from?

____.

Ughh what are you doing Dave Misson, i thought you were the injury god.

Replace Riewoldt with Jarryd Allen
Maguire with Geary, so Sam Fisher can play CHB and Geary to rebound with some run.
Baker, possibly Leigh Fisher or Jason Blake
Xavier with Clint Jones maybe?

This is shit.

Ease up mate. Nothing could be done to prevent the injuries to Baker and Roo. Maguire very much the same. Unfortunately his career looks to be over.

yes there is still the split round. not sure when. the last few years its meen after round 11 or 12 i think.

so that mean 7 weeks and only 5 rounds of football.

Just on Goose, I figure Blake will come in for him, and that's no real tragedy - Blake isn't half the player that the 2005 Goose would be, but then neither's the current Goose. Oh, and of course there's Geary, who was pretty good until being dropped.

The alternative is Fergie, and many of us have been saying forever that he's a good player who could really go somewhere if given the chance - now, here's his chance.

Regarding Baker and Xav, we have Jones, Armitage, and a little surprise packet in Mini finding form in the Scorps. From all reports McQualter has been playing like a man who knows he's got one more roll of the dice - and that could be what the Saints need, a desperate man with nothing to lose. As long as Fifi Fiora isn't picked, I think we will all be satisfied.

Allen's a gun, and should do well when given the chance - Roo's injury opens that door.

Milne has shown us who he is - he's a guy who needs another crumber there to make him perform at his best: the last time he played that well was when Guerra was part of the team. Based on that equation, as long as Schneids is there, Milne will do well - maybe not 7 goals every game, but he'll chip in nicely.

Ross should be commended (or count himself flipping lucky!) that he has brought about a policy of blooding youngsters and rookies. We saw Jones and Armitage and Gilbert play a little last year, when we were not in crisis mode, and that accelerated their development - that has meant they are better players to become replacements now.

Just some thoughts on the glass half full.

Now i'm a bit confused, does Greg Denham have no idea or was all this miss infomation?

Saints sweat on injuries
... Nick Riewoldt is St Kilda's main concern ... Xavier Clarke tore a hamstring and will miss at least the next month because of his history of soft tissue problems. Steven Baker could not return to the ground because of a knock to his knee on Saturday night, but he is expected to be available after this weekend's bye because of the Hall of Fame tribute match at the MCG. Full-back Max Hudghton did not play against the Tigers after straining his hamstring at training last Thursday and he is likely to be out of the game for at least the next month. Matt Maguire played out the game after receiving a bruised foot and an ankle problem, and he is expected to be available against the Magpies. Ruckman Steven King could return against the Pies after straining his hamstring a few weeks ago, but is no certainty ... the Saints are certain to recall Leigh Fisher and Jason Blake, who were omitted against Richmond. First-year defender Jarryn Geary will also come into contention for a recall. The immediate fate of Justin Koschitzke will depend on the match review panel's assessment today after he was reported by a field umpire for striking Richmond ruckman Troy Simmonds.

Time for the club to bite the bullet and play Rix as a defender. Allen has been waiting for a chance, and I think he and McEvoy should come in as forwards for Roo and Fraser.

Raph was lucky there were injuries - he just doesn't seem to realise his limitations.

I hope King and Max are ready soon.

Knee injury could sideline Riewoldt
RealFooty
May 4, 2008 - 3:18PM

St Kilda coach Ross Lyon says captain Nick Riewoldt could be missing for up to eight weeks with a knee injury.

Key defender Matt Maguire is also set for a significant stint on the sidelines after injuring his foot during Saturday night's three-point win over Richmond at Telstra Dome.

Riewoldt hurt the medial ligament in his left knee when he was thrown to the ground by Richmond defender Luke McGuane early in the second half.

"They haven't graded it fully, he's having scans either today or tomorrow and it's going to be anywhere from three to eight (weeks)," Lyon told Melbourne radio station 3AW.

"If it comes out on the good side it could be three weeks."

Lyon said the Saints had some young key forwards in the wings who were likely to be given a chance in Riewoldt's absence.

"We've got Jarryd Allen who played in the NAB Cup, a tall forward who was an emergency last week," he said.

"We opted for the experience of Fraser (Gehrig) to give him another opportunity.

"We've got young Ben McEvoy, a first round draft pick, really ready to go at 198cm and 98kg."

Lyon said Maguire, who has had a terrible run over the past two seasons with leg and foot fractures, sustained another foot injury on Saturday night.

"We haven't got the full wash-up, but I'm just putting it on the table that it was significant and he'll be out for it looks like a number of weeks, Maguire, and it was his good foot," he said.

"I'm not sure exactly what it is."

The Saints were also hit by hamstring injuries to Max Hudghton and Xavier Clarke, with Hudghton withdrawing from Saturday night's team.

Meanwhile, Lyon said Gehrig's future remained uncertain, with the full-forward having very little impact on Saturday night after being left out of the side for the previous two rounds.

"We'll sit down and assess where he's at," he said.

"Clearly he wouldn't have been thrilled with his performance, but again there wasn't a lot of penetrating ball coming in.

"... I think he looks at (his future), Fraser's very proud and we wouldn't want him to continue playing like he played last night, there's no doubt about that.

"But is it the chicken or the egg? So we'll sit down with him and Fraser will be self-determining, but we'll help guide him where he needs to go."

Come to think of it,

What's the one thing that the Saints, Bombers and to a lesser extent Melbourne Victory have in common.

Telstra Dome :thumbsd:

We all play home games there and have been shot to pieces by injuries.

Saints have started the year playing 6/7 possible games at the dome.
Dons: 5/7

Dogs are another tennant who have definitely had their fair share of injuries.

That ground is a shit hole to play footy on, How long until our contract is up, the quicker we get out of there, the better.

True that, becoming somewhat of a joke these soft tissue injuries.

Anyone have any info on how we went with injuries when we played at Waverly?

Just reported on SEN that Goose will be out for the season with a broken 4th metatarsal in his foot.

Rooey - Medial Ligament strain 3-4 weeks (thank god)
Bakes - Jarred knee (ok to play against collingwood)
X - Hammy 2-3 weeks
Maxy - Hammy 2-3 weeks

News not too bad, could have been alot worse.Theres still hope for the boys at moorabbin.

Also, what do teams known for their good run with injuries have? ... their own home ground that isn't based on concrete - Geelong, Sydney, West Coast - all recent premiers!

Allen straight in. Kosi to CHB if he's not rubbed out, and never to play in the ruck again. Gehrig needs to pull his head in and start kicking goals. S.Fisher to man up this week at FB because he was useless V Richmond. Hopefully King is back so we can get hitouts when both Gardiner and King are in the ruck. Midfielders to start getting clearances and stop chasing arse in the center square.

If these things are done, we will still win the game against Collingwood. If not, season's over and Ross Lyon's head will be arc welded to the chopping block.

Good tackle, just bad landing.

It would have been a good tackle if Nick had actually had the ball (hence the free kick for). But he didn't, making it a totally unneeded tackle with a clearly unneeded striking force, which is what probably caused his injury.

I know many of you will say "this is footy, toughen up", but IMHO I think these kind of behaviours that end up resulting in an injury to an opposition player should have to be payed on the player who caused it, making him miss the same amount of weeks the injured player is going to miss. And I would apply this to all kind of sports, not just footy. But this is just a very personal opinion that I doubt many people will share :D.

Now where did this Baker rumour come from? Someone is going to have to pay.

Shocking news for Goose though :( In his prime he was the best Center Half Back in the league. He's only 24 though so hopefully with time he will return to his best form.

You absolute goose. Our season is not over if we lose to Collingwood. I wish you stop being so over dramatic. FFS!

Man that sucks for Matt Maguire. One of the St Kilda players I like watching and listening to on radio and TV.

I really hope he is able to get through rehabilitation and get that 100th game.

Yes, it is sometimes just painful to listen to St Kilda's injury woes... Goose is a fantastic player and a big part of the St Kilda spirit when out there.

From a Geelong perspective, it will be interesting to see how Charlie Gardiner goes about his footy as it looks like he will have plenty of opportunity this year with the saints. I would imagine that Kingy will be carrying injuries for the rest of his career too and wont be able to match his performance levels of yesteryear, which is a big shame as he is a great player (still more then handy out there, even if at only 70%).

What happened to Baker? He had the colliion late in the game, but he got up pretty well from it.

Matt Maguire is a shadow of his former self. Will not be a big loss. His form was not great. The other losses not good.

ChrisFooty,
To say Maguire will not be much of a loss is a pretty low thing to say. :thumbsd:

Especially after his horrendous injury. The guy nearly lost his leg. I was looking forward to him getting some form back and saw a couple of good signs towards the end of the Richmond game. Take it easy.........
