West Coast Eagles WA Day Jumper
With the Origin game approaching, it got me thinking about the eagles WA day jumper. Thought it would ne neat if there was a mash-up of the 2000's flying eagle in WA state colours as a subtle nod to the WA coastline as well as the last time we wore the flying eagle in 2006, 20 years on from that flag.

Greta job. Love the concept. Perhaps fade the into navy blue as a nod to that jumper towards the edge of the jumper.

Seeing the tripe with so much navy and white makes me realise how lucky we are nowadays. It truly was a dark time
Except for that time we played Carlton in a final at home and had to wear the tripe with white shorts because it was a lighter guernsey. :drunk:

I grew up only knowing the Tri panel (it's two variations) until it was changed in 2016. Is it universally hated because it replaced our successful and iconic 90s design?
I reckon so. I also loved it as a kid and had a slight preference for it as a kid.Mind you that royal kit along with the royal kit with really small wings were the two worst royal kits produced. Started to like the wings when i got to hs and returnthewings movement kicked off around that time

There’s no peril in there and a couple shit kits including the ochre. Hard to offend me but these gen z kids are starting to get on my nerves
Agree the peril needs to come back, but I'm all for a limited time Ochre revival. People only want it back because it's an eye sore. Bit of fun. Club will make a killing from em, and I've always wanted one for my collection.

The tri-panel second iteration (2007-2016 I believe) is actually my favourite.

Author's note: please don't kill me.

The jumper power brokers had a hard on for white for some reason.

First it was the white pin stripe on the navy wings, than the white on the OG tri-panel which continued for almost a decade and a half through different tri panel designs until the wings return in 2015.

Even our 05/06 GF away wings have white pin stripes which looked shit than and still do.

Our identity is blue and gold. I don't understand why the need was felt to complicate that with white. It did nothing to any of our jumpers.

I'll give them a pass on the 2010s away majority white variants as that was an AFL directive which thankfully has been binned

I think the best argument for never introducing white again or even considering navy (apart from the odd occasional one offs) is that every one of our 7 GF appearances we ran out in the royal and gold wings.

That's out heritage, that's our identity. We may sometimes come off as a soulless, corporate franchise instead of a footy club, but its the little things like our jumper that give us out soul and something we fans can cherish and feel part of

Pretty much. It was a backwards step in every sense. A worse design, worse colour scheme and a move away from our identity.

Hate born from what the jumper represents rather than the design itself. Makes more sense as I've never seen a problem with the design per se. The new Eagle design would've put a few people off too.

It's just absolutely bonkers that the club ran with some lame arse St Kilda knock off jumper when the wings are an iconic design.

The weird white bar on the back also used to give me the shits in some irrational way. It's like they didn't know how to pull it all together on the back, so let's whack an ugly bar situation on the back there.

I'd rage if the tripanel ever came back permanently. The worst aspect was when the wings replaced the Ochre away jumper, and the home crowd would never see the traditional-esque wings variant at home.

Yes - Our 90s "wings" design was original - no other club had it. We should have never changed it.

But tripanel was also a bad design:
  • Generic - see St Kilda, and many other state or junior clubs
  • created clashes - the back (and 1 side) was "dark", but 2/3 of front was "light"
  • added white as a Eagles colour - white was never part of our identity.
  • Poor colour combination - White and Yellow should not be side by side (flag rules)
