I would stay away from King, there are hundreds of blokes with good football brains out there but senior coaching is 80% man/group management which most people get better at over time (some are naturals) For this reason I would go an experienced coach. I quite like Gary Ayres as an option, the question there is if he is up to speed with all the advances in training technologies and methodologies, but surely a well credentialed assistant with the right skill set could be brought in to compliment him in this area. I wouldn't be averse to Brett Ratten either, performed generally pretty well and is from a winning background. The other option for me would be Matty Knights, although that is a bit riskier. Came in at a very difficult time at Essendon and turned the list around and Hird is now riding off a lot of Matty's good work. Has since gone to a great club at Geelong and would have learnt a lot there. He is a strong willed guy but I believe would get the mix better between hard nosed and softer approach.
Knights would be a chance, then you have blokes like Alan Richardson, Gary Hocking, Robert Harvey, Mark Harvey, Mark Bickley, Brett Ratten or do they just call up Aker and be done with it?

Even if the Demons were able to carry out the coach's instructions what would the game plan look like?Certainly not a Pagan's paddock, not a Clarko's cluster nor a defensive game ala John Longmire or Ross Lyon style.I struggle to detect a game style each time I watch,it just seems to be a "get ball and get rid of it as quick as possible" style. Not sure what the club can do but maybe a firm direction to aim for is the answer.Another rebuild is going to take a number of years, can the club afford to wait?

Best example of the "planned" gameplan is the first half vs West Coast this year.

This is just wrong.

Firstly, we didn't get rid of Tom Scully. Secondly, Scully leaving was a massive positive for us.

He left either way, that wasn't really the bulk of the question, who were their players that left who kept them competitive in 2010-2011?!

But now you're getting thumped by interstate teams at the G.

Bailey had yo-yo performances but I'm sure you'd prefer that as a base to improve upon rather than Neeld's current situation of a Melbourne side that has only beaten one non-expansion side in nearly one and a half years - and now, worryingly, looks to have been overtaken by one of those expansion sides.
Bailey was a poor coach. Neeld is even poorer one. My take is:

The playing group killed Bailey with picking and choosing when to put in for their 'mate' Dean.

On the flip side, Neeld's draconian entry into the MFC has completely fragmented and alienated the playing group.

You can argue Bailey could have been given more time I suppose. Neeld cannot be given more time IMO.

Ok well Scully wasn't one of them for a start.

Most of the team is in tact - Petterd, Moloney, Rivers were probably the main players we've lost, along with a bunch of fringe guys like Martin. Obviously Bruce, Green, McDonald and Miller are the veteran players that have since retired or got the arse, and that's where it fell down I reckon.

Agree with that.

It's hard to say exactly what they need out of a coach. I'd say someone young like scott burns or simon goodwin with backing of Neil Craig if he does indeed stay would be ideal.

They've got a young list, neeld just doesn't seem a relate-able character at all.

If they sack him this week the extra fans that turn up to the QB clash should cover his contract payout....

Otherwise enjoy watching the QB clash with 30k (max) fans turning up.

Collingwood could play against witches hats on QB and probably still get more than 30k fans to the game.

its not their home game though so their members aren't entitled....otherwise yes I agree

Could have been some random thats guessing, unless he was suggesting Neeld has gone all Michael Douglas in falling down.

He just watched Game Of Thrones:(

Does this mean the MFC 2014 slogan will be "Winter is coming"?

If so, as someone who has supported a club that has been under siege from the white walkers for 30 years, I hope they built a better wall than we did :(
