The funniest thing is that 90% of the Dees supporters who wanted him gone yesterday morning have either gotten cold feet, or have bought into Neeld's hype that our effort was so good and we'll be right in 5 years time when Gawn and Evans have played 100.
I've noticed this too.

The way I see it:

Viney - good pedigree, took over as caretaker last time but (allegedly) clashes with Neeld. Doesn't want to be a head coach, especially wiht Jack in the team. Will be retained for sure.

.

Viney "allegedly" clashed with Craig at the Crows too.....

There were rumours yesterday of a Choco/Junior team (having worked together at GWS), but I doubt there's much to it.

Whoever is senior coach, the impact of Junior returning to the club in a coaching role couldn't be understated. His shafting was a significant factor in where the club finds itself.

I've said for a while we need to bring him back somehow. We aren't exactly flush with AA-midfielders over the past 20 or so years (Viney, Junior and.... is that it?) and you can't learn the kind of experience he gained from being a rookie listed rake to an All Australian, multiple BnF winner and club captain.

I don't like the way the media are always gunning for the coaches who are under the pump. I find the obsession with "sacking the coach" to be extremely distasteful. However, anyone who thinks Neeld should hold his job are either in denial or they haven't a clue.
...

Is anyone truly surprised with the rats in the media? Really? The media has an agenda they are working to on this one. Some journos truly are a bunch of low life scum at times...and this is one of them.

Many of them are not reporting the news. Many of them are trying to create the news. With no regard to what it may be doing to the person they are attacking. I don't like them and consider them scum.

I get that it hasn't been an easy run for him, but the fact is we've got the easiest draw in the comp this year and we've gone backwards in a big way since he came on board.
All his tough talk from the early days has completely disappeared, he's making excuses. Why is Dawes the only one defending him in pressers? Dawes has been at the club 5 minutes.

At the game yesterday the Melbourne supporters behind me were happy about how they had only had 50 less disposals than Hawthorn, and had won the tackle count. The biggest cheer of the day was when Kyle Cheney made an error.

They're really up shit creek with an attitude like that. I'd be sick to the stomach if Hawthorn ever displayed something like Melbourne did. I really do admire the supporters for sticking at it each week, but if they're getting happy over 'the effort' they put in into a 100 point loss, it really does speak volumes of just how bad they are the moment.

In saying that I don't think sacking Neeld this week will achieve anything. Not only can they not afford to pay him out, it'll just represent another coach sacked by the media and I don't want to see that vicious cycle repeat.

However I'd give him a 0% chance of coaching the 2014 season. I think that's obvious enough.

I hope to god Melbourne can get an experienced senior coach for next season: Roos, Choco Williams, Eade, Ratten, anyone with finals experience is a must. If they don't make some radical changes to the board and coaching panel in the next 18 or so months then I'd to think of what could happen to them, on and off field.

They're playing a game plan that they don't have the skill to execute. Coach's fault.
They have failed miserably at the draft, in 2006 they chose the ultimately unlucky Ricky Pettard ahead of Kurt Tippet, Pettard is now at Richmond. In 2007 they chose Cale Morton ahead of both Dangerfield and Rioli, Morton is now back in Perth! In 2008 (the Watts draft) saw them pick Sam Blease with priority pick 17 ahead of Scheuy, Ballantyne and Dayne Beams! In 2009 they pick Gysberts ahead of Lewis Jetta, Gysberts is now at North. Neeld had nothing to do with any of this.

If Melbourne had Tippet, Dangerfield and say Beams things would look vastly different.

2006 we got our full back and centre half back, Petterd was a late pick. 2007 we got one of our captains. 2008 was a fail, but Blease, Watts and Strauss have talent that can be unlocked. 2009 we were unlucky with Scully, but got one captain as well. 2010 we got a great footballer in Howe and a good young KPB in McDonald.

What's changed on our list that won 8.5 in 2010/11 outside of Scully to now?

Dawes to his credit has struck an impressive figure in the pressers. Being immediately elevated to the leadership group raised a few eyebrows, but I doubt anyone is questioning it now. He is definitely leadership material on and off field. If Neeld goes, Dawes could end up being one of his big ticks.

I agree that the AFL media are generally bottom feeding scumbags, but Neeld deserves the scrutiny given the level of performances, and I think he himself realises that. I however have a feeling it is McLardy who will be going tonight and Neeld will get to coach out the season. Yippee.

But is that the players they drafted, or the club's inability to develop them?

100 point loss to Hawks > 184 point loss to Essendon

Will be not be sacked

but thats the thing. could almost argue the inverse.

That's probably one of their more consistent performances in terms of competitiveness and effort, and they still got done by 95 points (and it could well have been 120+ had hawthorn not butchered so many chances).

They're just so non competitive something has to change

Pettard was pick 30 ahead of Tippett at 32, Morton was a fail with pick 4 leaving both Dangerfield and Rioli alone?
2010 Lucas Cook (pick 12) doesn't play a game! Meanwhile Geelong take Billie Smedts at 15 who looks like being a 150 game player!
The fault is not totally Mark Neeld's, many others have a lot to answer for leaving him with not much to work with.
The Scully fiasco is simplyy someone not doing their homework before hand as Scully would've most certainly gone anyway.

For once our supporters really can't be faulted. We've put up with rubbish for five years now - yet our membership increased practically every year until now.

We've just had enough. There's only so much goodwill left from the Stynes era and the factional bullshit is coming back into play again.

So many miserable looking Melbourne supporters at the game yesterday, just not a fun day, and we knew that'd be the outcome.

Where is Dean Laidley at nowadays, he would be a good option.

Neeld traded Pettard, Morton and Gysberts for a cinnamon donut after getting nothing out of them.

I want him gone.

I'm sick of trying to justify 100 ****ing point losses as ****ing "improvement".

I'm sick of going to the football HOPING TO LOSE BY TEN GOALS.

I'm sick of turning on neutral games and having a terrible performance by another team labelled 'Melbourne-esque', having the Dees blasted in a game that they're not involved in because they were so ****ing awful against one of the two teams playing the week before.

I'm sick of being a laughing stock.

I just want it to ****ing improve. I want some ****ing HOPE. Not necessarily results, but hope. Is that too much to ask?

Probably.

**** this footy team.

I had the day free and it never even crossed my mind to attend. I've got a membership, just didn't even think it was a viable way to spend my sunday. Just watched the first half on TV, then cracked a bottle of red and played video games during the second half.

I didn't even get that far. Watched the scores tick over on FanFooty as right now I've got more of an interest in my Ultimate Footy team than I do in my Dees.

What have they done to us?

My theory is this.

If you love your club, you turn up if you are able to. Only work, family and distance should be your excuses. To not turn up outside of those things is pure gutlessness.

Neeld can coach, but, he's been given some of the worst cattle I have ever seen take the field.

No heart, no desire and pretty much no committment.

Simple as that.
