Who cares who owns it? At the end of the day, no matter who owns it, they want to get a return on their investment and creating a successful club is the only way they're going to do it. Win-Win imo

It would be nice to actually hear the opposition supporters at a local derby... FFS, give me a spell. If Heart starts getting something like 30% of the support at an away game against Victory, all it will be doing is reducing Victory's home ground advantage. And it would likely mean that Heart has become a power in the A-League. You're kidding yourself if you expect me to believe that any Victory supporter wants anything of the sort.

Just dropping by to say congrats. I remember that day fondly when I woke up and won the football equivalent of the lottery, there's nothing like it.

However, I've been with MV through thick and thin and nothing will change that. It's good for football in this country, and it's good for the rivalry (even if I enjoy watching Heart trip themselves up).

lol and I love how Heart fans are so delusional, Heart is dead! finish! gone! Bon voyage! MCFC would want nothing to do with that name or anything associated with the Heart Brand.
Expect big changes pal in the re-branding including, new name, logo, colours and personnel's at the club also a new home base closer to the city, it will be similar to Wellington when they took over the NZK license only in this case the club remains in the some city.

The talk of an academy for Heart sounds great, as does bringing finiancial stability.
City would be looking at getting Heart in to Asia and flogging their sponsors (if the FFA will let them have certain sponsors that don't clash with FFA sponsors).

The proof will be in the pudding, but it sounds great for Heart.

That aside, couldn't agree more with the rest of your post. Somehow I doubt there would be the same concern about the ownership if they were Scandinavians, or southern Europeans, or even Chinese, which may have happened had the Chinese-based consortium kicked in a bit extra than $9 million. Why should Heart supporters be concerned in the slightest, when the new owner has turned the parent club from an also-ran in the EPL to one of the top 10 teams in the world?

No shit we are smaller than you, we've noticed. This City move is huge, and while there will be sacrifices it really does open up new possibilities, and reinvigorate what the club set out to achieve initially.

A change of name to Melbourne City works fine with me. Heart will be retained as a nickname, and City sounds much better and less lame. I'm more concerned about a change of colours, but as long as red and white remain a big part of who we are I am happy to incorporate sky blue into the club. I do find it amusing however that all the "experts" from the Victory camp are all preaching how being called City finally gives Heart the identity and point of difference it needs, when just a couple of weeks ago they were declaring we needed to relocate to the East, or Geelong, or Tasmania to find our identity separate from Victory because Melbourne couldn't support two sides. So is Melbourne now big enough? Are the new owners importing new fans?

They have stated that they aim to win games playing attractive football, and this is something the club always set out to do from the start, but lost it's way on underneath Aloisi.

They have also made it clear they want to invest in Australian youth development, and this is the other of the clubs core values that has been largely kicked out the door underneath Aloisi.

The fact that these are two of the most important things mentioned in this deal, and that City have stated and demonstrated elsewhere that they are willing to tip the resources in to not only make our facilities and youth system better, but the best, is fantastic.

Of course us fans are happy. This is huge. You forget that our fans are not the reason we are shit onfield and unambitious off field, we are all those things. We have endured 2 pathetic seasons on field and now it looks like there isn't just light at the end of the tunnel, there's a sun. For some reason you (not necessarily on Bigfooty) call our fans "losers", "******s" and "turncoats" but many of us have compelling reasons to support Heart, and really deserve credit for how we have stuck by our club through the hard times.

This is huge and doesn't only give us a chance to grow, but could really be a leap forward for soccer in Australia.

I think I'm agreeing to disagree with most existing supporters on this point. 'Heart' as a name could have meant something; the players just didn't make it work with their on-field performances. It could have been a great name, but continual sub-standard results meant it became a joke. Just like it would have become a joke for Heart to be named 'Victory' or 'Glory', given the clubs fortunes. Those names aside, what else is there? 'Wanderers'? 'United'? 'FC'? Pretty bog standard names, really. At least 'Heart' showed some initiative. 'Jets', 'Phoenix' and 'Mariners'? Yeah, credit where it's due, they're pretty good names. 'Roar', I'm not especially sold on, but it's not the worst. As far as I'm concerned, 'Heart' was only derailed by the players. If the team had played off in a few grand finals and won the league since they'd joined, everyone would have loved the name.

The new owners obviously have no idea what they're doing. As I understood it, Melbourne was completely spoken for as a 'Victory city'. If only they had Big Footy accounts, they could have received fair warning.

Spot on. The way I look at it, the Victory supporters who have come on here to have a crack in the past 24 hours have seen this move as the absolute game-changer that it could well be and figure they might as well get a few potshots in now, just in case the predictable 'shit crowds, shit results' comments become redundant in the very near future.

The sale was reported at $12million. I understand this is a record price for a club in Australia, and was narrowly more than the Primo Smallgoods owner bought Western Sydney for shortly beforehand. WSW, as you may know, were last years premiers and runners up and sit second on the ladder currently.

A bit of a satirical reference, based on an earlier discussion ITT, which started back here and showed pretty conclusively that one of the MV supporters who feels the need to post in here more than any Heart supporter has NFI what he's talking about.

Also, my members email indicated the club are committed to staying at AAMI Park. Given the minor ownership of the Storm, who also play and have their offices at AAMI Park, and the new name Melbourne CITY, I highly doubt a club like MCFC would decide to set up shop at some 400 seat dump in Albion.

There are two factors with the Heart that suggest the potential for massive growth. One is the population of Melbourne and the fact that Melburnians have consistently got on board with any professional team that's been winning. And the other is AAMI Park. It's the best purpose-built rectangular stadium in the state by so far it's not funny and anyone associated with the Heart would be insane to even consider moving. There would be literally no chance of getting any Government assistance to build another stadium that would possibly be suitable to hold an A-League game, if they moved of their own accord. So they'd be up for the entire bill themselves, for no good reason.
