It has saddened all of us to see our champion on the sidelines this year. We all know how great he is and what he is capable of, and hopefully the good times have not passed us by. Is it just me, or does Lenny Hayes seem to resemble the great man himself? His graceful running style, superb hands and aerobic capacity continually remind me of a young Robert Harvey. Every move Hayes makes seem to have been copied out of our captain's text book. I really believe that Hayes will be a star. We have seen it coming for a long time, but he is about to explode onto the scene and become one of the league's best midfielders. I have no doubt he will make the All Australian team next year. Although no one can replace Harvey, it is comforting to see the likes of Hayes taking the next step.

Agree on Hayes

Took him 4 years to settle in to the league tempo, that's fine, they can't all be freaks like Reiwoldt, but Lenny is totally ready to show his stuff. I thought in the first 10 games, before Scott flung him into the fence at the Gabba, Lenny was tearing up the comp he was that good. If we had stopped our B&F at Round 11 he would have won by 50 votes. You're right, he may not be the next Harvey, but hey, he might just be better too!

Stikman, my good fan forum friend!

Great to see you have found us here at Big Footy :)

Welcome aboard pal!

Hey Sav!

Yeh, here I am man. It was actually you who put me on to it - I didn't even know about Big Footy. The temp Fan Forum at Saintsational isn't really happening so I thought I'd check this site out, and it ain't bad, get to see some raving loonies from other sites too!
Cheers mate.

I'd put Lenny Hayes as being closer to Simon Black than Robert Harvey.
Also likes to give the don't argue rather than the Harvey shimmy shimmy shake.

Hey Stiks..

I'd say more like Harves than Black.. :)

Has always reminded me of Black for some reason.

Totally different build to Harvey.

Totally agree! More like Black than Harvey.

What do you get with a player like Black + Harvey put together? A SUPERSTAR! Bring it on Lenny!

Hey Stikman, agree with you there. I come here for my forum fix! :)

The same Stikman from the old saints forum I presume?
Welcome aboard.

I think Lenny has benefited from the spotlight being on Riewoldt and Koschitzke so much.

He had a great season and with his attitude and dedication I couldn't see him not improve even more.

Hoping that Heath Black can improve to. He has now settled in after a year and would be ready to take that next step. Love seeing him break the lines and bomb a long goal with that left foot!

agree Stone

Lenny will be Lenny.

There'll never be another Harvey, Like there'll never be another "Doc", Winmar or Lockett.

I'm sure though, He'll be almost as dangerous as Harvey, in his own way. :)

Lenny's going to be a gem

It may seem a silly thing to say but I'd definately prefer Hayes over Black (yes he has the Brownlow to show for a great year) but whilst Black may be more silky by foot, he DOES NOT get a hard ball the way Lenny does.. lenny has certainly learned to become a prominant tackler and keen on 1-percenters, must be the Hammers influence.

Black (Heath) on Black (Simon) would be a one on one duel next year that most fans would like to see

If it wasn't for the Brad Scott incident (I spit on the grave of his grandmother, the accursed son of a goat!) the Trevor Barker award may well have been a dead heat. Lenny has recovered really well from the post-season shoulder surgery; I wonder how Sydney feel about overlooking him?

Much as I like the way Lenny plays, Simon Black is the best in-close footballer in the competition. His hands are the best in the comp.

The match committee awarded each player a mark out of 10 for every game. Lenny missed two games and only finished 7 votes behind Riewoldt so chances were he would have won the best and fairest outright. Either way both will figure in many best and fairest battles for years to come. A few of us are famous on bigfooty for our week long assault on Scott after that game. The dog showed his true colours once again in Ireland.

You have to love Sydney don't you? Three picks in the top 8 and they ignore the local Sydney product who had just won the U/18 competition best and fairest. :D

It was a silly thing to say. Simon Black is an absolute superstar and will win more than one Brownlow medal in his career. I mean no disrespect to Hayes who is a good player, but saying he is better than Simon Black is ridiculous.

As for Heath Black and Simon Black being a good one-on-one duel, it would really be a one-sided duel. Again, they cannot be compared.

Maybe you better read that post again, I don't recall anyone saying that Lenny Hayes is better than Simon Black.

Regarding your Heath Black assessment, don't be so co.cky.
