Brook is a star.
Smith has had an incredible start to his career.
Duckett's scored a heap of runs everywhere.
Stokes can average 25 for years but if he's there day 5 in a chase no one in this country will feel remotely comfortable til he's out.
Zak Crawley also plays for England.

Considering tests here in the past few years have been low scoring, very easy to see one or two of them getting off the chain and putting up a competitive total.

I like what you did there with Zac Crawley. However you might also have said that on his day he is very capable of playing & missing his way to rapidfire hundreds.

It's a good matchup for the Aussies I think. Englands bowler's are meh, so our batters in home conditions should be okay.

Thing is they are playing well now, but the cliff can come pretty fast and quick. You run the real risk of multiple 35+ year olds dropping off and being forced into retirement.

Point is that won't change if we whitewash the Poms or not. I was responding to the statement that they may all retire in a rush because a 5-0 sweep of the Poms will be a good note to go out on. I don't think most of those guys will think that and will consider they have more to give.

Australia does have a habit of 'generational teams' that tend to retire together or over a short period of time.
Think Lillee, Marsh, Chappell etc. and Warne, McGrath, Lee, Langer, Gilchrist, Ponting, ++.

The Olympics is 16 days? Play every 3-4 days in a knockout round, makes 4 games max for a team. So you could have 16 teams. Obviously you'd need a few minnows, but the Windies islands would provide a number of sides.

I presume the format will be some sort of round robin before semi finals.

That is true, I just don't see a Pommy whitewash as being the catalyst for that to happen. No doubt over the next 3 years most of those names will probably retire, their age dictates that but Im not sure satisfaction with bathing the poms will make them all decide to hang up the boots at once.
It will be nice if we got to fully test the theory though!

I happened to wake up at 2:30 am and turned on the cricket. I feel so blessed that I did, to witness Mitchell Stark's bowling - out of here, that was on a different planet. Has to be the most devastating spell of bowling, ever! Just WOW!
I missed the capitulation after tea, Boland's hattrick. Shame! It's a shame Boland hasn't had more opportunities, but when you have Stark, Cummins and Hazelwood as the cartel, it's difficult to get the game time in that he richly deserves.
Have to sort out our batting though!

The criticism that Starc has gotten at times in the past few years really falls under “first world problems.” Sure, he can be expensive at times but he’s outstanding at taking early wickets and also at decimating the tail. 400 wickets at an average of 27 is fantastic. And I have said this before, but given how great he is as a white ball bowler I give him huge credit for sometimes scaling back his franchise cricket commitments to play at a high level in tests for as long as possible. I don’t begrudge guys who go for the money in franchise leagues - this is their job after all, and if they’re lucky they might have 15 or 20 years to capitalise on their talent - but I think it’s pretty special to have a guy who could be making more money rocking up to every IPL and leagues in South Africa and UAE and the US choosing to make less money to represent his country.

Sabina is not a large ground. Put the electronic signage a few metres inside the fence and then put the rope a long way inside the signage and you have boundaries around 70m square of the wicket. I think even in the test they were using an edge pitch and one square boundary was around 63m. And the 'long' one was only just over 75m.
Add the modern bats and bowling and fielding restrictions, all you have to do is tonk it over the infield and it'll be close to a six.
