2 and 6 = 4.5/5
3 = 4/5
4 = 2/5
1 = 1.5/5
5 = 1/5

5 is the best of the lot, no idea why you rate it so low.

Compared to 4,5,6 the first one was dreadful. In every sense.

How old were you when it came out? If you were above 20 then of course you'd hate it, because the hype will have killed it. If you were under 20 I can't understand why you hated it so much on release that you refused to see the other two. Double-sided lightsaber, lots of Jedi, huge war, perfect movie for introducing a new generation to the series.

That first one ******* scarred me. 4-6 was what Star Wars was about.

Even with the new director, I'm still concerned it won't do the originals justice.

I doubt it will, Disney will dumb it down to suit their demographics, which is kids

Because he likes being different to everyone else.

It'll be of similar quality to Pirates and Avengers, which I'm fine with.

True to an extent, but remember the reason everyone fell in love with ANH was that shot of the Star Destroyer going overhead, so it's not as if people hated CGI in the Originals.

Yep. Not sure if you've heard of them but there's a series of fan-edits being made, can't remember the name, will check when I'm home. He's almost finished ESB, and only ANH has been released, but they're both fantastic quality - and makes me embarrassed that the professionals working for Lucas Film haven't been able to do similar. He's just done minor things like fixing colouring, made the effects more believable etc. and reduced a lot of the crap CGI that Lucas shoved in the Special Editions. He's gonna do the prequels too so they might be worth checking out.

Luke getting over his Uncle and Aunt's deaths and joining Obi-Wan's mission was just as hasty IMO.

Here's the trailer for the ANH edit.

I used to not like 5 when I was young because I liked how IV and VI had Death Stars, but I've come to enjoy it more than the other two because it's a lot darker and more nuanced.

Well I'm only 22 now. In comparison to the originals it was absolutely terrible. Which is the common perception of it btw. If it was an original, standalone movie it probably would have worked. Unfortunately everyone compared it to 4,5,6 and it just didnt stack up.

I was 9 when I came out?
Never even understood V until a few years ago when I re-watched it.
I actually really enjoyed I initially, probably because I found Jar Jar Hilarious and a kid saving the day amazing.
Now that I'm older I hate it.
Just like as I've aged I've risen V from 0/5 to 1/5.

But as I wasn't around in the 70s, I couldn't appreciate the original trilogy for what it was, amazing technological advancement in visual effects.

Just like they dumbed down PotC?
Sorry, but Pirates of the Carribean 2 and 3 were amazing.
And throw in JJ, and I think this film will be the best one yet (as long as they fill in the spaces between VI and VII as I worry if they don't, it will feel like a spin-off that no one is attached to)

I wasn't born when it came out lol.

Yeah this is my point. Not sure how anyone who was young when I came out can hate it. I dislike it now, but I liked it at the time, it was good enough at the time for me to enjoy II and III.

You say that as if I'm defending I (I rated it the lowest of the six by the way). I'm talking about how you felt about it at the time. Not sure I understand how you hated it at the time when at the time the feedback was that kids absolutely loved it.

The first Pirates of the Carribean was also streets ahead of the sequels

That's where having read the books helps. :) Though it sounds like they're hacking and chopping a lot of that away.

Perhaps I was a mature kid ;):D

I'd seen 4,5,6 first (thanks Dad) and the 1st one just sucked in comparison.

Well you say that as a joke that's the only thing I can think of, because I loved it at the time, as have most people who were that age when it came out who I've spoken to about it.

Yeah I saw the originals first - still remember the first time I saw ANH hiding under a blanket when Obi-Wan died haha. And then freaking out that Luke was going to die on the barge in ROTJ.

You really are a Star Wars nerd :confused:

Not as much as I used to be, but I still know a lot more than is healthy. :P

If you haven't gathered I have a very obsessive personality. When I take an interest in something I need to know everything about it.

It's not a joke. The first one was truly terrible.

Definitely hit me up with some links to those vids you are talking about. Would be really interesting to watch.

Luke getting over his Aunt and Uncle and joining Obi Wan was quick but it made sense. What was left for him on Tattooine and he always dreamt of going out into the galaxy. It seemed his only real choice, or at least the obvious one.

But Ani going over to the dark side was too forced, too sudden, too quick. You cant make huge decisions like that so quickly. It had to be a slow and steady fall. The story of Anakin's fall to the dark side would have been much better told over say a 12 episode season of a TV show. Where you have time to tell the story, and watch the character slowly fall to the dark side.

Did you say you have seen Red Letter Media's take on the prequels and you still enjoy them?? :eek:
