What deliberate reason? Again, if you're trying to suggest the movie was made to appeal to Americans because the other movies somehow did poorly in America then you're way off base. It's to explore an entirely different wizarding world and set it distinctly apart from the HP series so far.
To appeal to Americans because they're a giant market in Hollywood. Not suggesting it did poorly over there at all.

Was it? I don't recall America being mentioned or referenced at all throughout the series. Happy to be wrong but the whole thing was set in Britain and only really mentioned abroad (Albania for instance) in Europe from memory.

They're marketing to Americans, not because they didn't like HP but because they're now giving them a platform into the series that makes it their own.
I dont think they are marketing to Americans as that doesnt make any sense. Harry Potter smashed records and made billions at the US Box Office. I dont think they need it to be set in NYC for American audiences to come out and see it.

Also Warner Bros approached Rowling with the idea of turning Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them into a movie. She thought about it and decided to do it but only if she wrote the script as it's her world and Newt Scamander is her character.

So there goes the getting made part as studios were approaching her haha.

So if the other movies didn't do poorly - and in fact did well - why set it in America for commercial reasons? Wouldn't it make more sense to make a clone of the other commercially successful films? I haven't seen any extra buzz about this because of its setting, in fact no one seems to know or care where it's set.

Because it's an untapped market in terms of exclusively being involved in a HP world. As mentioned above with the changing name in the book, they've pandered to Americans before.

The whole series is based out of Britain. Why go ahead and change it now, do you think?

Btw, this is all just my opinion and not based on anything in particular, just how it comes across to me.

I'm still not understanding. Yes they're setting it in America because no previous stories have been set there. No they're not setting it there to make more money.

I don't even see how it comes across that way since they haven't stacked it with American actors which you would think they would do if they were doing what you're proposing. The villain is Colin Farrell!

Does anyone know anything about "celebrity fans"?

If so, please can you list some of the biggest celebs who apparently support your club and a source if possible. Many thanks

Fancy Jod and I being on the same side in one of these!

I watch a daily movie show that rounds up movie news and they're American, and they gave the trailer about two minutes, chatted about how Redmayne looked great and reminded them of Doctor Who - another fine American institution - and then moved on to the next story. They didn't rave about it or how it was so brilliant because we were getting to see NY in the wizarding world or anything like that.

It's also unknown if the whole movie is set in New York, it's just known that the beginning of the film is.

Newt Scamander travels all over the globe to find Fantastic Beasts to research and write about in his book.

No you're not understanding, I'm clearly not getting my thoughts across well. All good.

When I say I don't understand is that you're suggesting it's an in-Universe world expansion, but also a financial decision from the studio? I guess I'm just saying the former is correct but not the latter.

Yeah that's what I was getting at. Just that it's likely to be even bigger in the states now that they've been able to write their country into this. It was always going to do well in the states, I just think this decision increases how well it would do over there.

Off the top of my head we've got Boris Becker, Seb Coe, Gordon Ramsey and the crazy one from Top Gear
