I guess why it looked out of place is that while there are suburban clubs through out the country that still play in the suburbs it would be rare for the club to be formed before the suburb has formed. No wonder they've been homeless gypsies without an identity to date.

Western United's bid to join the A League was based on a plan to build a 15,000 stadium by 2021. No work has started yet. The stadium you can see from the train was meant to be a training ground. But playing games there was a big step forward from the homeless stage.

WU have been bullshitting both about the current ground's capacity and their attendances, presumably to bolster the case for building the 15,000 stadium. There's a 800 seat permanent stand and a 2,000 seat temporary stand. They claim 5,000 capacity but there's no way 2,200 people could safely stand to watch a game there. One game I went to they claimed 4,300 attendance. I estimated it to be more like 2,500.

What do non Arse fans think of Arteta (as a manager)?

Some of my mates think he should be sacked if he doesn't win anything next season; yes, he only has one FA Cup to show to his name, but there is no denying that this Arsenal team has come leaps and bounds under his leadership.

Yes, he's failed after leading the league for the bulk a few times, but a team - in that instance, City - winning 16 of 17 or something absurd like that is insane and rarely happens. And yes, the team did lose its head in some critical moments, but that also comes with experience, which the team is gaining each year.

This year, obviously, injuries to two of our key players - for sustauned periods of time - have ultimately played a part in our misfortune this season. Say what you want about the refereeing decisions which have also definitely played a part too, how much, it depends who you ask.

I think Arteta is the right person for the job; there isn't really anyone better who is available to take over, the team is clearly on an upward trajectory, and maybe, on some other days, results go our way and he has a trophy or two.

Anyway, what do you think?

Well on this site I learned that 15/16 (where never led the league but Le Arse did) and 16/17 were Poch bottlejobs. Lots of Goons among the crowd saying as such too.

So do we apply the same standards here?

My only thought on MA is he's a sooky loser.

Hes an average manager with a very good squad(just missing a decent CF) imo. Needs a big trophy in the next year ot he should be replaced.

That's for you to decide I suppose.

Yes, I know you think he is sooky, but as a manager (tactics etc), what are your thoughts?

Who should replace him - realistically - that is on par or better?

If an average manager leads a team to three second place finishes, what is everyone below him?

To me you have the best squad in the league, so he is underperforming for mine. So everyone below are inferior squads.

Not sure who'd replace him either, I dont follow football as closely atm to have an opinion on that.

Arteta has a lot of good points but also a lot of flaws. I think he struggles to find the right balance to the emotional side of the game, and this season I think he's been found wanting a bit tactically.

I wouldn't be sacking him, but he has spent an awful lot of money with just the fa cup to show for it. Not sure how long I would give him.

In general I think he is damaging for the game, and Arsenal's reputation with his moaning, and obvious encouragement to the Arsenal players in the use of the dark arts. Most people should be enjoying Arsenal's return to the to top end of the table but I've met very few that don't despise the side Arsenal has become.

Yeah I’d say he struggles to control his emotions at times and that seems to have passed on to the playing group. I think their absolute best football has been better or as good as anyone in the league for 2-3 seasons now but they’ve just thrown in too many flat performances to get the job done in the league.

If I was an Arsenal fan I might worry that each year they could be closer to a down season like City and Liverpool have had during their great runs, only without the trophies to show for the good years. Of course they’re a big chance to win the champions league which I would think buys him plenty of credits.

I wouldn’t be sacking him.

2x 80+ point seasons (your first since 2008), 3x consecutive 2nd place finishes, while frustrating is nothing to sneeze at.

Arsenal are close enough to the mark, I suspect it’s just fine tuning strategy and mix of players at this point. It’s not a knock down rebuild from scratch job.

Vasquez, Bellingham and Rudiger red carded late into the second half of extra time in the Copa Del Rey final. Madness.

Barcelona win with a late goal to make it 3-2, and cue the scenes of Real Madrid once again taking the loss well (from brief highlights I’ve seen Barcelona should have two penalties as well that surprisingly weren’t given).

Rudiger is something else. His conduct in their loss to Arsenal at the Bernabeu was disgraceful, and amazingly was permitted to stay on the pitch. Petulant and violent behaviour that once again reared its head again this morning.

If he wasn’t held back here, I wonder who is he charging at with those crazy eyes, the referee? Pathetic stuff.

**** what happened at the end. That's just standard Madrid.
The layoff and run from deep and first time hit for the first goal from Pedri. That's the highlight.

Saw Western United's new stadium on the train to the footy on Monday.
It's literally on its own surrounded by paddocks. Odd location.
Speaking of the A League and stadiums, the Roar desperately have to get out of their Suncorp deal.

They'd have been lucky to have 2,000 people there on Saturday arvo. Deadset looked like a covid crowd.

What's even worse is that normally when you lock spectators out of stands, you normally put them on the opposite side of the TV broadcast so it looks like someone is there. On the weekend, they were stuck behind the goals at one end.

On top of all that, the pitch was an absolute cow paddock and terrible for football.

Arsenal are going to start winning. They need a centre forward and they are pretty much then complete. It is building and it takes time.

Injuries got them this year. You simply cannot win league titles with that many injuries - no one has done it.

I think there are more damaging things to the game than what Arteta does.

Definitely a very emotional man who wears his heart on his sleeve, sometimes to his/the team's detriment.

I wouldn’t be sacking him.

Next season will be very telling.

Yes, injuries crucified us. If - and I am using Liverpool as an example here because you're champions - had the same amount of injuries, for the same length and losing your best player(s), there is no way you'd be Champions.

And that's not a criticism.

It happened to Liverpool last year. Massive injuries in the middle of the season and then it all fell apart for no apparent reason (probably because the last ones standing during the injuries were run into the ground) when the first team was mostly back.

Liverpool have been blessed this year thankfully.

We can finally agree. Their attitude is next level dare I say it Trumpian.
That type of attitude has been hiding in every club, we've seen Arteta, Slot, Klopp, etc have a go at referees and then Nottingham Forest with their Twitter post. It bleeds into grass roots and it's similar to the way people act now with they're right, you're wrong and there is no scope for changing, especially in politics with the rise of Farage and Trump.

The way I see it, he’s the right man if he wins the CL this or next season, or the prem next season. An FA Cup or League Cup next season would buy him time if they are also still top 5.

He needs to start delivering trophies.
