Haha Wtf.
Legit arguing with brit yids elsewhere blinded by Chav hatred that they actually think this is a deserved charge.
The list of things I've heard said in this country without charge is staggering.

No wonder the UK is ****ed.

You can't have a law that says it's illegal to call someone a **** bastard, but is legal to call someone a %%%% bastard. Even though for me, there is a huge difference between the two in terms of offence.

It was a stupid thing to say, but you would hope it wouldn't get as far as an expensive and time consuming court process.

Pretty much this. Yeah, white privilege yada yada but no need to even bring someone's race into it even if they are white.

You just said there’s a huge difference yet you can’t understand why there’s a law treating them differently?

It’s a massive difference in that one is offensive and the other is anything but.

This copper can’t get over being called a stupid bastard and is taking the piss about it being racially motivated

Yeah that’s not racism…

I don't think using insulting words such as stupid or bastard should be illegal but that's the current UK legislation. As is the racially aggravated part for including "white" in her insult.

Section 4A of the Public Order Act 1986

4A
(1) A person is guilty of an offence if, with intent to cause a person harassment, alarm or distress, he—
(a) uses threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour, or disorderly behaviour, or
Section 28 of the Crime and Disorder Act 1998

28
(1) An offence is racially or religiously aggravated] for the purposes of sections 29 to 32 below if—
(a) at the time of committing the offence, or immediately before or after doing so, the offender demonstrates towards the victim of the offence hostility based on the victim’s membership (or presumed membership) of a racial or religious group]; or
(b)the offence is motivated (wholly or partly) by hostility towards members of a racial or religious group] based on their membership of that group.

It's all a bit unnecessary. You would think police officers would have thicker skins when they are dealing with drunks who call them names. There didn't seem to be any threat of violence or history of racial hatred. The extended legal process is also unreasonable but it seems to be the norm in the UK.

Kerr would be fighting to be found not guilty rather than accept a fine, as a criminal conviction could impact her ability to play internationally.

Then you introduce subjectivity, and you open the door to anyone to argue that what they said wasn't truly offensive.

You just can't open that door. It would be a disaster.

Those laws were brought in as part of Hate Crime laws against ethnic minorities and clearly with racism in mind …

If I read correctly, a 4 day trial has been scheduled for next year? Seems very excessive, so there’s likely much more to come out.

And? She said "stupid white". If she said "stupid black" there would be outcry as well, why not against white people? Again I get the whole white supremacy/white privilege argument, but race is race.

Big difference between prejudice and racism. Dumb blonde is prejudice but when someone is racially vilified it’s so much more. Being blonde isn’t going to stop you to access to housing in some areas or certain jobs like it is in many parts of the world. Or being stopped by police or prosecuted etc etc

Bit surprised by your post tbh

Huh? Makes no sense. There was no reason for her to call him a "stupid white". She could have left it at stupid but she clearly had an issue with him being white. How is that not racist?

When in human history have white people been subjected to unfair treatment based on their race?

Human Rights Commission defined racism it “as discrimination combined with institutional power and systemic oppression of certain groups of people."

You've got an example with the Sam Kerr case.

How on earth would they stretch that one comment, four days?

I'm with a few others here. It's not overly offensive but I think there just needs to be a blanket rule that race is never used as part of an insult. It's completely unnecessary.

Obviously the connotation shouldn't be as offensive but you can't really have rules for one but not the other.

I assume a few hours a day. Opening statements, cross examination etc and deliberations?

A simple apology should be sufficient.
