Eh I work with 18-19 year olds and it's pretty obvious they use eccies a lot more than even people I know (mid-20s) or when we were going out heaps. When I was that age it took a little while for everyone to get into it but it's just the trend now... alcohol is expensive, nightclubs are too, in fact there aren't really go-to venues these days, and how often do you seriously see people under about 22 sitting down a pub? Kids like going to festivals and events and putting it on instagram, and buying 10 drinks at 10 bucks (at the least) each isn't something they can afford. MDMA makes more sense there too. Another shitty Americanisation: this festival thing of dressing like a ****head in quasi-bondage gear or like a sloot Kardashian and taking molly.

MDMA is about 25 bucks, feels more fun, and has a bit more of a rebellious feel.

I don't agree with it, people abuse it way more because there's a notion it's not bad for you. Just another in a long line of 'weed isn't bad for you!' arguments.

I’ve worked too long in the AOD field. Can’t wrap my head around the need to be having a drink while walking to a pub in Northbridge, or prior to going for a swim. Can’t you just wait until you’re at the pub/restaurant or home

Depends where you are. In certain places it can be quite nice ducking into a 7-11 grabbing a few beers after a hot day and drinking them on a beach/quiet park. Or having them at a restaurant/eating out. Australia thou doesn't really have that street culture (maybe Perth is different) so isn't really done. Plus I guess the risk is another StKilda Christmas night so there isn't a lot of Social/Police trust for people not to **** up so it is cracked down on.

Pubs/restaurants can be expensive and not everyone wants to drink at home.

I understand that it can be a nice thing to do - my query is around the seeming angst at the fact that you can’t and the number of rants in relation to that is confusing.

Reality is that we aren’t allowed, it’s not that big a deal, no ones going to die of dehydration, so they should suck it up and move on. I do believe that’s what the Australian catch cry is these days

No big deal. I think the point is more we don't have that type of street/beach culture. And Perth would be a nice city for it if they developed it.

We've got something similar in Melbourne with night markets/festivals/movies which works really well with the late twilight but realistically can only do it a few months of the year with the weather.

We have street culture.

We have a culture of pandering to the lowest common denominator.

Having a beer at the beach or in a park or wherever isn't in itself harmful, but some people do it and start rights, leaves broken glass everywhere etc. so therefore no one is allowed to do it.

It's why we only get mid strength beer at the cricket and footy now because some dipshits can't handle full strength beer without causing trouble.

I've never personally known anyone get done for street drinking, I think if you aren't being a dick head you are generally alright, they just make you pour it out. If you were say walking your dog at the park drinking a stubby at 4pm on a Saturday arvo quietly minding you own business very few cops I think would even care.
That's why I walk my dog after dark.

Easy to palm a beer if they can't see it.

Being from SA (and old) I was so use to being able to have a glass of wine at a picnic or a beach, walking to the shops with a beer and even drinking a beer whilst driving on a hot summers day.

I was pulled over by the cops at a breathalyser and they asked if I had anything to drink and how much. I simply held up the stubbie three quarters full and they had a heart attack. I don't know if the rules have changed now in SA but the drink driving laws were based on blood alcohol % and not the concept if "actual" have a drink whilst driving.

I've been asked to tip out our beers by cops walking from home into Northbridge but lucky enough not to be fined. However, how nuts is it that you can't enjoy a drink whilst walking with mates to the pub? Seriously, what is the worst that can happen other than tripping and cutting one's self? The reality is, this is an anticoon law. Yes I wrote a racist term but is is intended on highlighting the mentality of the state, behind the law, rather than expressing a dispersion on our indigenous friends.
this is a what law?

this is a what law?

It’s illegal in WA to leave your car window open when you park. My other favourite is not having a full window water level in the car.

Got to love a nanny state

The things you learn - I did not know either of those laws

They are very rarely if ever enforced, though.

If you do some digging around you can find obscure laws in every jurisdiction that are never enforced.

As a P plater one of mates got done for driving with his arm out the window by the local cops. And when they drove off after giving him the ticket the cop in the passenger side being a smartarse had his arm hanging out the window.. Disgraceful but he was a rev head always having a never ending feud with them though.
