Part 4 is here:

Well I’ll never be going there, I refuse to pay to park in a shopping centre.

It only applies if your there for more than 3 hours and if that’s the case your either at the movies which is free or have been mugged and your lying unconscious somewhere in the centre.

There could be no other reason you’d want to be there longer than 3 hours

I thought of a great enterprise whilst waiting in a long line of cars, wondering if I'll ever get out of there. A mobile alcohol supply (on scooters) that you can order on the CarouselCarparkAPP. They can meet you at your location and provide you with enough alcohol to get you out of the carpark. Each car is likely to buy a bottle of Beam each trip. The profits would be enough to feed the family enough alcohol to hopefully get them out of the carpark one day.

How far do people actually travel to go to shopping centres? Carousel might take me 15, 20 minutes to drive to and I can't think of any reason why I'd bother to do that. The idea of driving half an hour or more just to go to a shopping centre doesn't really compute.
I think most people in Perth would have a major shopping centre within 15 minutes drive

It is about 10 minutes for me. I wouldn't go 20 minutes regularly but if I need to go to Garden City for something then I would have no problem doing that.

Carousel is less than 10 minutes but I much prefer Cockburn Gateway tbh. Nicer place all round that takes me less than 20 minutes to get to

Was in Stockland Bull Creek the other day. One of those mid range centres that has one supermarket (Woolies), one department/variety store (Target) and a bunch of smaller shops. Hadn't noticed before but it's pretty much exclusively targeted at middle aged women. There's Sussan, Suzanne Grae, Katies, Rockmans, Be Me and Noni B in the one place and other than that there's a Spendless Shoes and a Just Jeans as the only other clothes/shoe shops in the whole place. Normally I would expect that line up to be paired with a Lowe's or Tarocash or something.

Mid-range centres are the most interesting. Compare with two others nearby it: (Stockland) Riverton Forum also has one supermarket (Woolies) and one department store (Big W), whereas Southlands Willetton has two supermarkets (Coles, and a Woolworths that used to be Action) but no department stores. Southlands also has a cinema, unlike the other two.

Park Centre in Vic Park is sorta like this. Coles + K-Mart plus a bunch of little stores, bank, post office etc. Don't go there much but I'd say the avg age of the patrons is 65.

National Geographic too. Crystal growing kit FTW

And god I miss Wetzels Pretzels, their cinnamon ones were lethal

Or Maddington Plaza as I will always know it.. but I think we've been here before.

Also I find Kardinya shops handy if I need a K-Marty type place but can't be arsed dealing with the menagerie that is Garbo.

It's like it was designed in the 70s or 80s knowing that one day all the patrons would be fatties in gophers. So much room.

Yeah Kardinya Park (the flag is flying high) is good for avoiding crowds. Generally I'll just go to a supermarket for staples or a nearby fruit and veg shop, bakery etc. unless I actually need something from a centre. Going to Garbo to just browse at Zara and City Beach sounds like torture.

I probably need to get out more but I'm intrigued by shops that have a very narrow specialty. There used to be a dozen different mobile phone shops but eventually they faded because you can buy phones everywhere. Battery World, Shaver Shop - these seem to thrive even though you wouldn't think they have a big enough market. Those shops selling crystals and dragons etc. can **** right off.

Cartridge World is a business that i'm surprised still stays afloat. Ink cartridges are way cheaper online.

How those shops make enough to cover their rent is an eternal mystery to me.

Try the bakery there, the pies are award winning.

Once upon a time Southlands had Coles, Action and Farmer Jacks and that was before it had the cinema end added on. I think Action was a Boans once but that was before my time.
