Well you'd think so wouldnt you. You'd think given hes a midfielder that he'd actually be given at least 1 minute of midfield time this year. But he hasnt. He has not been played in the midfield at all this season. Not once. We play Cochrane in there you cant get a kick on a good day but we dont try out Ebert.

Choco is a slow coach. He is slow to make moves when we are fastly getting beaten. He is slow to make selection changes when players are out of form. He has said that he has a lot of faith in his players to turn things around but surely their comes a time when:
1) out of form players need to be dropped.
2) when players are getting well beaten they need to be moved.

With our terrible hot potato handball gameplan we wont win a final this year. Weve at least won one final in past years but i cant see us winning any with that gameplan this year.

Ebert's defensive side (or lack of) has already been pointed out; obviously Cochrane's a tagger. Ebert needs a bigger tank to play in the midfield - with foot skills like his and Port's midfield depth, I'd have him up forward permanently as well.

"Surely there comes a time...." - Port were equal top before this match. Blokes who' have got you to this position deserve the faith of the coach.

A lot of people have been saying how they're quietly rolling along quite nicely. Port were terrible last night (yes, that hot potato handbal stuff is infuriating to watch), but there's still a month to go before the finals. I'd rather be in Port's shoes than Essendon's.

Without your couple of hard nuts in the side & Josh Carr playing like he doesn't want to be there you guys do not stand up to close attention very well at all.

If the younger Burger had kicked a goal instead of hitting the post in the last q would that have been the spark for a Port win ??

If any number of shots in the first quarter had been goals, Port would have been up and running.

Hes not kicking goals up forward and not getting enough of the ball to be a damaging player. Still, he has not played 1 minute of midfield gametime this year. Not 1 minute. Why not try him there at least once?

Hes a natural ball winner. He won the Magarey as a midfielder last year. Why not at least try him once during the course of the year there.

I hear you. Yes most of the players deserve the faith of the coach. But there does come a time whenplayers are really struggling for a kick that they need to be dropped.

Its just too similar to last year. Certain players with 'gold passes' thats spot in the side is never questioned no matter what. Then comes finals time it all falls to pieces because we are playing the best teams and the cracks open up widely.

Yes we have been plodding along. We did that last year and its what cost us. There was no intensity come week 1 of the finals. Plodding along against bottom 8 sides in the minor round gives false security. We dont totally thrash sides. Look at what Brisbane did last week to Adelaide. You never see Port do that. Why? Because once we get a match winning lead by half time we simply stop, play half pace and let the opposition gain back some respect on the scoreboard.

There are a few players that shouldnt be in that side but its been covered up by the fact we had won the last 6 matches.

I dont want to put all that on his head because us letting them kick the last 5 goals of hte match isnt his fault.

However, we were 10 points down, with 8 minutes left, we were winning all the centre breaks and had all the momentum. He hits the post, they go down there immediately and goal, then they get another within a minute. Game over.

4 points down, all the momentum...you have to wonder. Good players kick those goals.

Teams dont kick too many from the boundary. You go wide, you miss more often.

You're saying he will be his club's third highest Brownlow vote getter for the season? Outpolled only by two Brownlow winners?

How many North Melbourne games did you see in 1979?

They really do seem to have dual personalities, they go from one extreme to the other lol :)

Thats alright mate im just happy port will be playing finals.

Port are gone. Nobody in thier current playing group will win a premiership. i was on your bandwagon all season but you've lost me with your efforts in the last week.

Why are you off them? Isnt this an ok time to have a hiccup. What happens in the next four weeks will say a bit but how can you go from backing port to not rating them in one week.

People round here are far to fickle. When forming an opinion do some rigiouris analysis such that you won't look like a tool changing your mind every second week.

Cheers

couple of differences..Russel Never played in the Big league he only ever played VFL melbourne suburban clubs versus each other and SANFL Adelaide suburban club versus each other the equivalent of each other.

He was played in the backlines most of the season at North Melbourne..He was a centre player..

He ended up the highest possession getter for North Melbourne in 1979... so we consider that stat a no impact stat ?

Ebert junior plays in a professional National league that uses as its basis most of the clubs from the former VFL and clubs from NSW, Qld, SA and WA

Lesson #1 for any aspiring full forward out there..

When the game's in the balance, ten minutes to go and less than two kicks in it, and it looks like your team is going to be overrun by a better and more talented opposition, take a dive, con the obviously blind umpires into giving an incredibly soft free directly in front, and then watch the opposition give up without a yelp on account of the ' why bother ? " factor.

Admittedly, Port weren't switched on and played like a rabble - but this piece of disgusting, pathetic unsportsmanlike conduct is shameful.
I hope everyone who has slagged of Wanganeen vis a vis this part of his game saw and took note.
