Question about youth allowance/uni payment stuff. I want to get it and am eligible but I want to know if I have to go in for those bullshit visits and report my income and stuff every fortnight? When I left school and was only working a few hours a week I was on NewStart or whatever they call it and had to go in every fortnight and talk to them and it was quite annoying. I'd really like some free money but not if I have to sit in Centrelink for an hour every couple of weeks.

I was on Youth Allowance + Rent Assistance for about six months and never got asked once to report in person or online. Unfortunately it got taken away from me as my parents experienced a pay rise, quite bullshit though as I am living dependently and pay $700 a month on rent with just a part time job helping me, yet they expect me to mooch off my parents.

Well no wonder he's the owner. He can afford houses (or house) by stealing other ppls food all the ****ing time.

Not really, he's always asking us if he have a spare $10 that he can borrow.

I bumped into him at the supermarket one night a few months ago, and we both checked out at self serve next to each other. He went 'Ahh shit, left my wallet in the car. Hey, do you reckon you could pay for this? It's only $15. Saves me going out to my car'. Said no.

Haha, I'm sure there are plenty of us out there.

My friends are getting married in a couple of months - they're doing a very low key one, with more of an afternoon tea (if that) than a sit down meal, ceremony in a friend's bit of land etc. They've estimated that including absolutely everything it'll cost $2.5k. They're 23 and 24, so I'm glad they're not going over the top.

My parents got married at my aunty's house, reception in the free community hall, no bridesmaids/groomsmen, wedding cake made by mum's aunty, dress made by her sister, everybody bought a plate of food. Wedding license cost $30, which was all that was spent for the day. 35 years on and they're still married. I wouldn't go exactly that low key, but overall it has resonated with me quite a bit.

+ another one for a not expensive ring, hell I'd want a small wedding too. **** spending $15,000+ on a day ffs.

Just need the fiance tho.:$

Jk post, was jk. ;)

Lol, I'm glad you said no. I hate freeloaders. His kind need to be eliminated.

As I said, can't, he's the owner. And I can't complain really. I'm a two minute drive from work, three minute drive from uni, close to train station, and you can see the goalposts of the local oval from my bedroom window, making it more motivating to get off my ass. I basically have everything I need.

Knew it would come off that way. Why wouldn't I want free money if I can get it? I don't need it but it couldn't hurt if it isn't too much of a hassle to get.

With that attitude, you are better off getting a job dude.

I could never get youth allowance as my parents made too much, but unlike my other friends who's parents let them sit on their arse and give them $20 for beer and fill up their cars forever I was told get a job, and I did and now I'm completely dependent financially which is fantastic.

If you get into the habit of that shit, in a years time you will not find yourself a job in the current climate.
Get one now, get in early and stop being a freeloader thinking "oh **** yeah, free money to sit at home and drink beer!".

Seriously man.

Oh I already have a job. Only a couple of days a week while I'm at uni but my mates have been getting into me to get it so I have more drinking money and such. Just making life more comfortable.

Just be careful because if you work a few extra shifts, or have a bonus for good work or whatever it can effect your Centre link payments.

Also, would I be wrong in saying the mates telling you to get it for extra drinking money only live off it and don't also have a job like yourself?

Given I already have a Go Card for Brisbane public transport and a Myki for Melbourne public transport, should I get an Opal card for Sydney public transport even though I'll be in the town about twice a year at most? (For the record I'm in Melbourne about 3-4 times a year and Brisbane about 7-8)

I cancled my gym membership on the weekend because

a) I don't have the time to go
b) even when I do have time to go, I don't
c) It is ridiculousy expensive.

I am informed that even though I am cancelling it I will have to pay for the next month whilst its cancelled. Is this allowed? My contract is over.

I would cancel the direct debit, if that's how you pay it, before politely informing the gym that they may go forth and multiply, or words to that effect.

Yeah 30 days notice is usually standard.
