Ok this is what I bought this week, and it added to $30 actually.
- a capsicum
- mushrooms
- tomatoes
- apples
- 12 eggs
- a couple multi grain rolls
- packet of chips
- packet of fantales
- soup
- tp
- tissues

Have staples at home (get a big order home delivery in the term holidays = $100)- last night made a pasta bake with the pasta + pasta sauce I had at home + mushrooms and capsicum. This will last me 3 nights. Another night I'll chuck a salad together prob + another night I'll have toasted sandwiches or maybe eggs on toast prob. Not 5 star dining, but hey I'm still alive. :D

i spend $30 a day on food sometimes lol

i need to stop that.

Yeah dining out will hit you hard. I've completely stopped going out for lunch altogether- except on days like Report Writing Day, when there are no kids. So I'd go out for lunch maybe once a term or so.

I get maybe one lunch order a week which is about $4.

Never get take away coffee or anything like that.

Also look at shopping at Aldi or something to cut costs. (I dont, I prefer Coles) but yeah you can do things like that. Even Costco, buying in bulk.

Spend about 3 hours on the weekend to cook something you like and that is cheap, like pasta which you can easily cook on $10 for like 5 portions.

Buy plastic containers, put in container, put them in the freezer.

Put it in the fridge overnight if you know you're going to need it the next day, or just chuck it in the microwave for like 5 minutes.

Rough_Edges, you won't have to pay rates but you will have to pay rent, electricity, gas if you have gas (most places do) and water usage. Rent is usually paid monthly. The only insurance you will need is contents insurance, good idea but if you don't have much of value I suppose some people don't bother with that. I don't have a landline so no phone to worry about except my mobile and internet.

Some costs.... I spend about $100 per week on food/groceries. Aldi is definitely cheaper, you will save 20 to 50% on most items there on what you would pay at Woollies or Coles. My water bill (for one person) works out to about $30 per month. Gas and electricity fluctuate wildly over the year and depends on what type of heating you have and whether you have airco, however my gas and electricity combined works out to about $200 per month on average. Insurance costs me $45 per month. I live alone so you should find these costs will be lower if you are sharing. I know all this because I have am a sad person that has a spreadsheet to keep track of all this stuff :$

I eat more than that during a 10 hour shift at work....If you replace the apples with dim sims.

Convert to Islam and you won't have to pay for food for a whole month.

Has there been a law passed for L and P platters to place their plates visible on the bonnet/boot, as opposed to tucked away at the bottom corner of the windscreens?
in NSW it has to be on the outside of the vehicle, not sure about other states

Has anybody ever been able to get out of a phone contract early without paying it out? Have just over a year left on my Samsung with Telstra, worst phone I've ever had, desperately want to switch back to an iPhone.

Or would Telstra allow me to upgrade to another Samsung phone? And if so, what would the cost be, roughly?

When you recontract on Telstra the actual contract termination fee itself is waived, you just have to pay what is owing on the phone. So being say an 11-month old phone, let's estimate there's about $350 to pay out (I have no idea what this is, you have to either go online or instore).

The other X amount is waived (this didn't use to be the case). You can recontract to a higher or lower value spend and still only have to pay what is owing on the phone. Of course once you pay off the phone you now own it, so you can sell it and get money to put towards what you had to spend to pay it off. It's all relative.
