That's a cool idea; yeah I have a premium Spotify subscription so was always just planning on using that as the medium of choice and having the computer/phone somewhere inside so it can't be changed. I don't mind other people playing their stuff if the vibe has died off a bit, but it's the mid-song skips that really shit me at other people's parties.

And yeah Cruyff14 it is my party and I'm genuinely surprised my parents haven't had more of a "do what makes you happy" attitude which is usually their style of thinking; I just hate their attitude that this is a party they are putting on and hosting for me, rather than it being my party

This probably all sounds very petty and childish but I just reckon I'm getting hard done by and it's sorta eating me up potentially having to play shithouse music all night at what should be a time to remember
Honestly, just go full rage mode. It's the only way it's gonna work.

They might be paying for it, but it is YOUR birthday and it should be what makes YOU happy. If you go ahead and put music you want, is she even gonna know (until the night), and would she do anything at the party if she didn't agree with the playlist?

I don't think it's childish at all. It's your party, I have so much more fun when there is music on that I like, and at my own bloody party, I'd make sure it was music I bloody well wanted.

Can't remember much of my 21st.

Your mum has a point, you want music that will appeal to a wide range of people. Whenever I've had a party that family is invited to, I start with the classics so that they're up and dancing and happy, and then later on I put music on that pleases me and my friends. Can't you just find a compromise?

Alright... songs to play at a 21st. I never ever argue with my Mum, we get along extremely well, but we've been blueing about this for the last week and can't come to an agreement.

She's of the belief that the music played should be commercial top 40 pop from go to whoa – supposedly the main thing is "appealing to the masses" and that's the only way to do so. I have no issues with 80s and 90s pop and will happily play that, but it's the tripe from the last 15 years which is truly awful and I don't want anywhere near my party.

Given I have about 60 of my mates coming along and the extreme majority of them are into similar music to myself (for want of a better word 'indie' rock/pop/hip hop etc), I don't think that cliched party music is appealing to the masses at all. It would rather be directed at the family and 'older' friends that are there, of which there'll probably be about 30–35

Now I'm not an idiot, I wouldn't be choosing songs that are divisive or will kill a vibe – it would more just be inoffensive dance pop a la Cut Copy, Miami Horror, World's End Press etc... – but her argument there is that "no one knows these songs".

In my humble I believe that my 21st playlist, which I hold dear to me given the important role music plays in my life, should at least be somewhat representative of what I'm into – but the counter-argument is that my parents are throwing down probably a couple of thousand dollars on hosting this party therefore they get the somewhat final say.

Where do I go with this? I've had one mate tell me I'm overthinking it and I shouldn't worry, and another mate genuinely disbelieve that my mum was suggesting Katy Perry and Pitbull songs and thought I was taking the piss.

Help me, GD!?
put me on the aux cord

it is your party, but at the same time be cognisant of the older generation.

the music you mentioned. it defines you. if that is vital to you and your friends then they must be played also.

you could ask a sample of both age brackets to see what they think, which may help.

the thing with music is that no one is every truly happy

Melbourne Park.

Is there an entrance closer to Hisense Arena? I usually go via the one near the garden square area which is where the tram drops you off but that's on the other side.

/yes I could look it up but I cbf'd.

Coming from the eastern suburbs by train (only way I know) get off at Richmond and take the Olympic Boulevard/Swan St exit, which is the opposite side to the MCG exit. Then follow the path and you cant miss it.

Thanks but I'm getting the tram. Just looked it up, is one stop after RL. :)

There is a season promo from I think channel 10 that is regarded as one of the best. I can't for the life of me find it...Anyone know the one I am talking about? The promo I am pretty sure was building up for the start of the season.

Quick question. Just been offered a ground pass ticket to the Open tomorrow. Are they worth it? Working overnight tomorrow night so kind of don't want to commit to going if it means I'll be tired for work. Never been before.

Depends if you like tennis I guess. Sounds like you could take or leave it. Is it with other work people? You could just leave if it's getting too late.

Yeah couple of work people. And I like tennis but only ever watch it on TV, not sure if it'd be as entertaining IRL. Just accepted so we'll see how it goes.

Yes, especially if it's for nothing.

Good games on Hisense.
