I didnt really think the umpiring was that bad tonight to be honest. Some of the whinging from all supporters on the main board gameday thread was baffling. The Thompson advantage was fair enough. There were 2 handballs after the umpire called advantage before Thompson put his hand up. Sorry, but you dont get to call it back because you made a poor decision 3 disposals down the line. The Tippett non-handball was there.

The only one which had me baffled was Franklin getting a free kick for putting Rutten in a head lock.

Not sure what people suggest the free kick count should have been. I guess its far easier having a scape goat though.

there was a blatant free to tippett i think where they tackled him and there was an arm way over his shoulder, but yeah i don't think the umpiring was too bad, crows were definitely really good tonight hawthorns inaccuracy is what kept them in it

On the radio on the way home people were whinging about Dangerfield not getting a holding the man free kick when he tried to wheel around in the forward 50 during the last and got tackled, sending the ball loose and "patty" throwing his arms in the air going down like he was shot. Are they serious?

Oh yeah, Hale should have been awarded a 50 when he was absolutely clobbered deliberately by Porp. Then for Porp to go down like a sack of shit after barely being touched and getting a free kick reversal for goal was outrageous.

**** them.

That free kick reversal was a joke, especially considering it was a final, it was late in the game and a guys team mate had just had his face smashed in. Apparently hes not allowed to show any ticker, especially since Porp dived like a bitch.

Ah yeah forgot them. 97-98-08-09-10.

I guess the crows have the record for the 21st century.

I prefer to use this millenium.

i.e. You haven't won a flag this millenium

You haven't made a grand final this millenium

You haven't won a prelim this millenium.

Didnt really rate that game highly- Hawthorn were incredibly frustrating to watch and just seemed to have a touch of arrogance about them. Hawthorn clearly the better team but the crows nearly pinched it- would have been a disaster. An opportunity lost- never seen a top ranked side play like that in a premlim before.

Yes- I am stoked that the crows lost. But I think that is more to do with not having to put up with another week of sickly sweet, in your face, crows love ins from the adelaide media. But I feel we will endure that to a lesser extent anyways?

But I think that that team will be pushing for a flag or two over the next three years- Their old Friend Gill will help them out with 4 of their 5 double up games against the bottom four sides + Old Gill will have them only travel to Vic for the year to help out with fatigue.

Regardless of the leg ups they get from the AFL (who they still think is out to burn them- the nasty Victorians), their list is as good as any in the competition. Bring in Crouch next year and with the depth they have on their list- I cant see us dancing on their grave for long at all. So I will be quietly happy that they lost and be satisified that I dont have to listen or read anymore mindless trash for a little bit.

Their list is not as good as any in the competition. If it was, they would have had a better finals series. Whether or not their list is equal to others in 2 or 3 years, thats another story.

The crows have pretty good depth. They don't have as many star players as the Hawks but they have few big gaps. For all of Tippets spudness and over rating, him and Walker are a good KPF duo that requires decent defenders especially to mark their small forwards who feed of the ball being kicked to the duo in cotested marking situations. If he goes then there is a hole.

I reckon the crows are a bloody even team with depth. Their players ranked 12th-22nd are as good as any team in the league. Its the top end talent that is probably 4th or 5th ranked in the league. Yeah they got a good draw but were 13-4 against the other sides before the double up games. That's still a fair effort only losing to the Collingwood, at home and the Hawks, North Melbourne and Brisbane on the road.

Walker is a star but they will lose tippett and rutten is nearly finished. The rest of their list is hard working but not super talented. There will be quite a few teams overtaking them next year.

What you have to ask yourself is "Does their list have significant improvement in it?" Could they play any better than what they are now? I just have this feeling that they will be as Collingwood was - the sum of the whole is greater than the parts. They may win a flag if the cards fall their way - as they almost did this year - but I suspect they might fall the way of St.Kilda - the team that nearly, but never, was.

The crows strength hasn't always been talent, but they've always had excellent physical preparation and systems.
Being 'on' from the start of the pre-season cup right through to prelim final weekend with only one hiccup that I can see is a fair effort. In the cycling world they'd be looking for what you are taking. They do have some pretty big holes on their list they they didn't have to cover much during the year so next year is another ballgame.

I can agree with this. The problem is that it's the top end talent that will pull your ass out of the fire in a close game. So the third or fourth that they actually finished this year is about right.

Tippett is what Daniel Stewart should be - someone who clunks marks, crashes packs and makes everyone else in the forward line aware of his presence. Walker can perform without Tippett in their side, but I'm not so sure about the other way.

Unless he has a decent defender on him, in which case he's just Daniel Stewart.

Was their overall finals record this season OK? Lost 2 from 3 and only beat a ragged Freo at home, travelling with a limited break. How did Tippy go on a decent tall back?

After I saw last nights game it was obvious the we need a Lewis Jetta type has he got any more brothers.

Been saying most of the year that this is how Pearce should be playing for us. But he isn't being protected by our small bodied mids like Sydney's big bodied mids protect Lewis Jetta and we stick him on the half back flank.

When Pearce played his first full year, in 2006, I called him a Jet and hoped we would recruit Leroy Jetta in the 2006 draft to join him and we would have 2 Jets, but Essendon got him at pick 18. But we got Nathan Krakouer in the 2006 draft.

If we had decent strong mid fielders like we had with Carr, James, Hardwick, Wilbur, Pickett, Dew, the Burgoynes etc and we feed the ball out to Pearce and a switched on Krakouer then we would be dynamite.
