I'm only going to say one more thing on this. I only objected to the 'I love Port Power' name change, which popped up as a Facebook alert on my page when it occurred.
As for the marking stuff, I'd personally never listen to what any marketing person said to me, ever, as they're usually clueless twats. This club got completely confused about its identity when it began listening to these new age boffins in the first place. It was really only when people like Haysman/KT and Co came in and comprehensively surveyed the actual fan base that we as a club began making massive strides in this area.
This was never meant to be a personal attack on you Rick. I was just bemused and flabbergasted to see you apparently seeing the "Port Power Est 1996" blueprint as the way of the future. That's all.

Always open for feedback.

A separate issue been flogged to death IMO is the name.

To me personally Port Power is a nick name, that's all it is, I don't believe that is our representation of where we should be marketed. If we listen to radio land, the AFL site eg Ladder, it's quite common that Port Power is used.

I understand peoples positions on naming. To me we are always PAFC. After the initial name change Macca and I spoke and agreed it didn't fit well, so I looked at the P.A Power. even though it sat there for awhile I didn't like it either after I digested it.

Hence I have gone for the longer name but more relevant IMO, which is also very similar to our header on the site.

Back on facebook, as far as I see it, it's an exposure utility, not a quality discussion forum that is what bigfooty is for.

Who handles the BigFooty Power Twitter account?
That seems to get the balance right.

It's important to not lose sight of the fact that the FB page in question is an extension of this board.
It's not a "passion page", no matter what the SMEGs* try to tell you.

It's not an IT problem, it's not lead generation, nor is it marketing, it is wholly and soley a communication issue.
What is your message, who are your target audience and what objectives do you have.

You can do all this without spending a cent on FB.

I tend to read most articles I see online about Port Adelaide however most of the actual news about the club that strikes a chord as being reliable and up to date comes from the Club website and BigFooty.

I don't have too much of an issue with the term Port Power itself (like it or not people will still refer to us as Port Power) I just want to see the FB page aligned to what the Club itself is pushing, to me it just makes the FB page stand out from a random fan page.

As far as content goes it probably should be mainly links to either here or the Club website.
There should be scope for comments, conversation to increase interest from those that don't frequent BigFooty but the ultimate aim should be to point them to the Club site or these pages.

I'm happy to withdraw my influence and pass total control to you if you like. You have the skills and knowledge, by all means, if you want to take it over, I'm happy to do so.

I'm not a social media person (Mrs Road says I'm not even social) but I loudly applaud Rick for his Facebook endeavours discussed here, and for being the whole-hearted Port man that he is.

Re 'The Name' I may have something to contribute....

Just before Russell Ebert and the two Toms flew up to Hong Kong at the end of September, I prepared a local press release and sent the draft to the Club for approval.
There was just one thing wrong with it - wrong enough to have Daniel Norton on email telling me never but never use the terminology 'Port Adelaide Power.'
It's 'Port Adelaide Football Club' or 'the Power.'

If I had sunk so low as to have used 'Port Power' in the draft press release, the intimation was that it would have caused mass slashing of wrists all over Allan Scott Power HQ.

I made the necessary amendment in the text, sent my apologies to Daniel... and went off to stand in the corner for the next hour.

Something simple like Big Footy Power (as BC said above) or Big Footy PAFC are two names I like without going overboard, but then again I'm a noob here so my opinion doesn't matter much lol.

You dont give the sword of a thousand truths to a noob ! :p

lol only an hour, I've had 24 hours so far :)

FishingRick04, if you want it to sound more general, how about 'Bigfooty Port Adelaide/PAFC fans' or something like that? I see what you're going for, but since the page exists to promote the Bigfooty Port board it seems silly to me to remove the word Bigfooty from the page's title, even though it does remain in the avatar.

I wouldn't have the time to devote to it but, as I've said, I will find the time to help with a communication strategy which will help you, or whoever else that helps out, to focus their energy in getting the results you want.

You've said you want to expand the presence of the page, can you be more specific about the numbers you want to achieve? Last I checked there were around 90 odd likes of the page. Do you know how many click throughs to this board there are? It would be good to get an idea of how it's functioning currently.

Yep - I probably should have mentioned that the links to the podcasts in particular are good.
Listen to them in the car (when other half is absent...). Much better than the local radio stations.
I for one appreciate anything that makes it easy to access content about our club.
If nothing else you have made more people aware of the page in the last day or so which is a good thing.

Now I just need to work out when I can get home to see a game again.....haven't been back for almost 3 years.

From what I gather I only get that data on sponsored ads not from general posts. But there would be minimal shares or likes to information presented on the page, which doesn't help it's exposure, we were close to 100 likes which then unlocks more data, but that's gone back wards now :)

Anyway

Well there's our first KPI (and easy win.)
I'll keep up the discussion on PM before Dingle gets too mad.

Absolutely.

I have welcomed your discussions. I've never turned away hearing opinions. No one has offered to help so far until today so any IT guru's on here are more than welcome to PM me and discuss options.

Remember no one actioned the initiation of creating a page, so I took it on to get it started. Again I haven't mentioned that I use my own money to try and promote the page and increase exposure. There is no ego here, I'm only trying to create subtle changes which I hope will attract new followers to big footy and also the podcasts, whilst also creating another profile link to the club.

I don't see how some one volunteering their time, money trying to do what they think is best deserves to be ridiculed and mocked.

The page has been going for how long now? Over a year I haven't had one person contact me offering to help, provide idea's & suggestions etc. So finbarr tribey anyone else, if you want to message me with productive advise or if you wish to be a volunteer admin to help with posting content feel free and I'm happy to arrange.

Kind Regards

I have no interest to be honest. I unliked the page the moment I found out it wasn't hacked.

"Port Power" is anathema. Whenever anyone types it or says it - except for ironic or comedic purposes - I facepalm harder than anyone has facepalmed before.

I get you moderate/admin in your spare time, but the knock on you didn't come from a place of ungratefulness or mere social media carping, it was your choice of title that had me believing Outback Jack or some other troll had hacked the page or a 9-year old relative had swiped your password.

Of all the things you could've taken it upon yourself to change, the words "Port Power" were up there with the worst choices possible.

The follow-up rationale was just as horrendous. We Are Port Adelaide, we haven't been branded 'Port Power' for 14 years.

Just because a couple of dickheads on talkback radio, the odd subeditor of the Murdoch rags and a few mums in Peterhead insist on using the alliteration isn't just cause to wheel it out in attempt to attract the lowest common denominator for mine.

The counterpoint is 'it's just a Facebook page', but not really when you consider the vast majority of us are club members, enjoy voicing and listening to the opinions of others and most of us have gone in on the sponsorship syndicate at one time or another.

So to see one half of the board's social media presence rebadged to "I love Port Power" was a shock and quite honestly repugnant - and I'm sure others felt the same.

To be associated with a page that looked like it was run by a teenage girl (I didn't mind the Jasperflood) is less than this community deserves.

Well there's an opportunity to use your skills to benefit all of us and help with the admin if you like. People appreciate your wit and linguistic abilities, you'd be a good fit to help out and take over.
