He's been on a bender. Why is Bender blind?
Migrants taking our jobs was only the first part of the original point. The second bit is that failing that they will take welfare which is a direct drain on the economy for no return. It's going to be either one or the other, that's a fact.

FOR NO RETURN
We could do all of those and more if we wanted to.Maybe we could start saving the world after we look after our pensioners that built this country, ensure that our indigenous people didn't have a third world standard of living, etc.
Well, we're definitely doing more damage to our land with mining...last I checked, refugees don't nest in strip mines. We're doing more damage to our land though mining and were losing more tax money through breaks to mining companies and assorted big business than we would if we let more refugees in

My point being we are subsidizing the destruction of our environment and people are worried about the cost of saving others from war torn countries.Well, we're definitely doing more damage to our land with mining...last I checked, refugees don't nest in strip mines.![]()

I'm sure there are environmentally-friendly alternatives that create jobs but unfortunately BIG GINA doesn't get loadsamoney from thatBut mining and car manufacturing hires people.
Or something.
Maybe we could start saving the world after we look after our pensioners that built this country, ensure that huge numbers of our indigenous people don't have a third world standard of living, etc.
Whilst its all well and good to go out and hug a few trees, mining is a massive part of the economy and without it we'd, particularly in SA, be up the creek without a paddle and would have far less capability to accept refugees etc.
Only if dumping mining was the only change you madeWhilst its all well and good to go out and hug a few trees, mining is a massive part of the economy and without it we'd, particularly in SA, be up the creek without a paddle and would have far less capability to accept refugees etc.
Incorrect. Renewables are far too intermittent as a power supply.I know this is a little bit crazy, but if we heavily invest in renewable energy, maybe our economy would be less reliant on the mining industry?
Actually, if we heavily invest in renewable energy, we also won't need to burn fossil fuels to power our country.
Even better, if we heavily invest in renewable energy, we might not destroy the earth at quite the same rate as we currently are.
Aw, it's not for Australia. It's more of aShelbyvilleNew Zealand idea.
Guffaw.I was going to post that the Redbacks are 5/9 here but it's not really that crazy is it?

Denmark can operate on100% wind power*. We have wind.Incorrect. Renewables are far too intermittent as a power supply.
France and Germany have dumped Nuclear in favour of renewables and as a result their usage of coal plants has gone through the roof to cover for times of low generation from renewables.
Renewables are only feasible with energy storage, and at the moment the lead acid batteries are by far the most advanced energy storage method and they have environmental problems of their own and aren't economically feasible for large scale storage.
