So you think refugees won't build places to live themselves if they get a bit of land? As an nation we have done this exact thing before. I wouldn't exist if it wasn't for the nation's migrant programs, both post-WWII, but also back in the early days of Australian white settlement. People will build their own homes from whatever they can, and that assuming we can't afford cheaper combined accommodation. There's 1100 unoccupied homes in Broken Hill, but ain't nobody renting them for less than 300pw, or selling for less than 300k. There's room and there's infrastructure, **** there's even then oldest inland Mosque in Australia, but houses will still need to be built.
How much money do we suddenly bring back into availability if we stop ****ing around with Nauru and Transfield and shit like that?
Right now I can see 62.6 hectares of arable land on ruralview in country victoria for $490k. With adequately sized individual houses, there's a over a thousand homes right there. Spring fed dam provides permanent water. Power runs adjacent and access is excellent. Thats land for a thousand homes with upwards of 3000 migrants settled if you let them live there, for less than the cost of one inner city Melbourne flat.
People will build communities, they just need a chance.
