Just a random thought but if alcohol were still illegal today wouldn't it be just as bad as some illicit drugs out there today? Without the knowledge and safer regulation there would still be 'backyard makers' not knowing how strong and deadly they're making their booze?

It would have the same stigma attached to due to its status as an illegal substance. Especially if it had been illegal for all this time.

People just think that because something is illegal it's bad.

That hydroponic shit could be regulated but it is about 10 x higher concentration than the original "organic" stuff and its been proven its cause schizophrenic results for the users.

Decrim won't increase the availability. Traffickers/dealers will still see the same penalties they do now so there is still risk involved on that side of the spectrum.

Decrim was very successful in Portugal, as one example of decrim working. Less people taking drugs, less drug related deaths, less drug related illnesses.

All I wanna say is: Why not give decriminalisation a go? What's the worst that couple happen in a couple of years of a trial period? Trust me, people aren't going to forget their education within a year and all go on to become drug abusers. People who were aware of the risks are still going to be.

Meanwhile kids will keep dying at these festivals because they're dropping all their pills at once to avoid the sniffer dogs, or they're taking shit which they don't know the properties of because there's no regulation.

OK exactly. The safe stuff can be regulated. You brought up the other "schizophrenia causing" weed which I am not read up on. People who are that arsed to be getting the super mega strongest versions of a drug were always going to do this regardless of its legal status.

Because people are stupid idiots. They will smoke it then drive to work or somewhere else. They will smoke it at lunch time and then you have to deal with them at work and they aren't coherent.

I have no problem if people want to use drugs in their own time and place and don't have deal with the public whilst their affects wear off and don't drive or operate machinery after a smoke or poping a pill or snorting a line. Decriminalising it doesn't necessarily mean making it legal for people to grow freely in their own back yard. Just like how decriminalising ecstasy wouldn't mean that you would be allowed to make your own pills.
