Unfortunately Weatherill has overly politicised the debate and this pushing of the referendum is completely against all common sense. The public need to be informed about the issue so they can understand the risks (or lack thereof) but pushing a referendum only gauges public perception at a given point in time. If the referendum shows a lack of support for the nuclear storage then all that proves is that the government was completely inept at communicating their strategy - nothing more.the only thing stopping it from happening today is there is a law that prohibits the spent fuel returning to Australia. With a stroke of a pen, this could happen very quickly.
