The real legacy of Trump

You seem like the real ahole here. Alot of your posts hate oozes from your every word. Telling these people to pull thiers head in is one thing but thier whole lives getting ruined seems obsessive and definitely doesn't match the action.
If they'd just put their hands up straight away and admitted that they over-reacted, this story would have quickly gone away. They're lawyers, they should have known better. But they chose not to do that, instead they let it escalate and milk it for their own benefit. So they sowed the wind, and now they're reaping the whirlwind.

what is your point? Authoritarian nutbag gets presidency and people start paying attention to news. Now hes gone (for now) people stop caring. ofcourse that was going to happen. Its exactly what we wanted to happen.

Yeah dunno why this is news. Reminds me of some of the old Trumpians in here who were always going on about Trump having 15 part thread, but not Obama.

Like.. yeah of course, no s**t ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Is it social media?

Or is it Trump, the GOP and the RW echo chamber lying about what happened?
It was social media driving the Russian Collusion line post 2016.
Look at the results of Trump’s election in 2016 and 2020. Very similar except that the Democrats turned over some crucial states like Arizona and Georgia in 2020. If there was any Russian interference in 2016 it had little impact in the polls.

Huh? What are you saying?

Social media allows uncensored bullshit to hit the internet airwaves. The bullshit is provided by players like Trump on the right and others on the left. There’s no way that this stuff would ever get a run in the past through legitimate news outlets. However, these days it’s open warfare with the bullshit and some people can no longer tell the difference between fiction and reality.

I don't blame social media for the lie about the 2020 election. I blame the folks in positions of power who started the lie and endorsed the lie.

But those blokes in positions of power dont get to spread the lie if they didnt have access to unregulated social media.
Of course they do.

And it's still not the fault of social media.

When ISIS beheads someone and shares the video, is that the fault of ISIS or of social media?

Platforms need to be responsible in the way they allow certain content to be shared but they are not ultimately as culpable as the folks producing the content.

Funny how its never happened in the time where mainstream media was the only media. All news was filtered through regulation and educated people.
There are plenty of cable news networks willing to share the lie.

Are they all "regulated" and "educated people"?

Trump, the GOP and the RW echo chamber are the ones at fault. They are the primary cause. Blaming social media first and foremost misdiagnoses the problem.

Besides, if you go back to the days of pamphleteering, there was all kinds of partisan nonsense circulated. Claiming this is confined to the modern age, due to the internet and social media, is ahistorical.

Look at this from 100 years ago. Henry Ford didn't have Twitter.

And frankly, blaming social media lets the RW off the hook too easily. They've been leaning into this nonsense for nearly 30 years now, long before Twitter came along. Sure, Trump and social media amplified and accelerated it but the more fundamental cause is RW paranoia and the willingness to campaign on it once they saw their governing majorities disappearing.

Cable opinion news is a fairly new phenomenon as well and with proper regulation they cant show extreme misinformation. the us media rules could do with some tightening.

What is the basis for this? What regulation are you talking about? OANN has been saying for months the election was stolen. That's not extreme misinformation?

Cable news may be relatively new but what you're really talking about is the repeal of the Fairness Doctrine in 1987. Again, long before social media.

And it's not just cable news that feeds the RW echo chamber. Talkback radio is a huge factor. And that was also around well before Twitter came along.

Blaming social media obscures what's occurred on the American right. It was happening long before social media arrived.

Look at how much Trump’s influence has been diminished by losing access to the most powerful social media platforms in the world. Yes he’s still here and he still wields influence, but that influence has been greatly reduced.

You make a good point. Maybe this would of happened in the us anyway even without social media.

still doesnt change the fact that better regulation of media is needed. Of both social media and more traditional forms. The problem of social media is it gave idiots a widespread voice and this has helped mainstream media types recognise what the idiots want To hear.
