Good analysis but those facts are so disappointing.
Totally, going from 1st too 16th for marks inside 50 is the real kick in the dick for me. We can give any excuse we want for a teams lack of performance this season, but the bottom line is whether its the AFL, or your kids under 12's team, if you cant take marks inside the 50 you'll struggle to win games!

I was thinking the same thing, this season our forward line has looks clogged up for nearly the entire year, and our entries don't at all suit the style of the players we have in there (high kicks too stagnate contested marks situations), and with the exception of Jenkins every player is having their worst season in the last 4 years.

I know we've had his continuity issues with players, and our mid's haven't helped all that much. But its still surprising that Francou has such remarkable fan fair considering we've gone from the #1 scoring team for 2 years running under Teague to #10 under Francou.

Just look at the Key Performance Indicators:
Goals: 12th in AFL (1st last year, 52 ahead of 2nd team)
Goal Assists: 12th in AFL (1st last year, 37 ahead of 2nd team)
Goal Accuracy: 11th in AFL (5th last year), most likely indicating our shots on goal are from harder scoring positions
Inside 50's: 1001 or 10th in AFL (1st last year)
Marks inside 50: 171 or 16th in AFL (1st last year)
Therefore in 2018 only 17% of kicks inside 50 result in marks, down from 26% from last year

At a certain point you have to stop making excuses for the guy and just ask whether he's even that good!

Are the marks inside 50 down because of poor structures and forward performance or are they down because the delivery has been shit from the midfield.

It’s no doubt an issue, but both midfield and forward lines have been decimated by injury. Unfortunately it’s just really hard to judge the performance of our coaches this season because quite simply they haven’t had the fit cattle.

No fan fair from me. He's been a disaster. Handed the keys to a Ferrari and drove it into the swamp.

You cant point to 1 thing definitively which is the annoying thing. But its clear that our forward 50 entries has looked horribly slow and stagnate. And the opposition nearly always can get the spare man back to impact the play.

1 thing Teague seemed to do well was isolating forward line matchups through space freeing leading patterns, (whether they be in the 50 or not). I just don't remember seeing that this season, and certainly not in the forward 50. When guys don't get their lead honoured they just seem to wander back towards goal (and into the space others should be leading into) or stay close enough that their opponent can drop off and fill in the hole!

But was it mechanical failures that forced him to drive it into the swamp.
2016-17 forward line:
Walker: No preseason, hamstring injuries. Clearly not fit.
Betts: Multiple hamstrings. +/- off-field distractions. Also not looking close to 100% fit.
McGovern: Ankle for 8 weeks, now a shoulder
Lynch: ?residual of glandular fever over preseason + side strain
Knight: total of 6 games all season
Cameron: gone!
Jenkins: only one close to full fitness. Is a 2nd/3rd option specialist, struggles to lead the forward line. Any surprise he’s played his best footy the last couple of weeks with Walker, Lynch, Betts all back in the side?

He may have been handed the keys to the Ferrari, but that Ferrari wasnt in tip top shape by any stretch of the imagination. I’m not necessarily saying Francou’s an awesome coach, I’m just saying it’s not exactly fair to judge compared to previous years.

Those stats are certainly damning, but I think why people still view him in a positive light is that Francou isnt part of the ex-crows players boys club, and comes from a well credentialed, successful club renowned for it's great culture. For now he gets a pass on this season purely because of the horrific injury list we have had to deal with, and I think most are willing to see how he goes with a fit and firing side. I'm hoping he gets that opportunity.

What is Kaesler's role at the AFC? Seem to be hearing his name around the place (i.e on AFC.com.au) a lot more lately, but I'm not sure what his portfolio is.

Who is the dark haired guy who sits next to Pyke in the coaches box each game?

We banter so much about the assistants but I have no idea who Pyke’s right hand man is.

Yeah, yes. Read any thread with discussion around our assistant coaches. No one that posts here works alongside the coaches inside the four walls of the club. So it's all speculation and discussion based on observations made at AFL and SANFL games.

Are you arguing with someone about how little you know about what it is you’re arguing for?

No wonder he’s confused ;)

I know people will scream nepotism but I’d love to bring back truck as the backline coach. Would be a massive upgrade on hart

There's been talk about Sumich, but what about Schofield from Subiaco? Mate of Walsh's apparently and taken Sublaco to multiple flags in the WAFL.

Only problem is that he played 130 games for Port and his 15 year old son is in the Port Academy....
