Remember when walker was getting goals at SANFL with a ridiculous amount of ease?

Honeslty, he is kicking goals, which is what he is meant to be doing, if he is smart enough and fit enough to make rooms and get uncontested marks and goals why would be penalise him for that?

The proof will be in the pudding, get some AFL time and see how he goes.
Dont get me wrong, I want him in but they did appear soft goals, that's more an indication of the opposition than a indicment on him

Fair Point E.C but at least he knows how to get easy goals as they occur in AFL too .
Yes has a lot to do with opposition but also about putting yourself in right spot.
But more important least knows how to kick them when gets opportunity unlike Pets and Stiffy etc.

Mitchell Grigg seems to have really stepped up his output in the SANFL this year, having struggled to lock down a position in the Norwood senior side last year. Does anyone know anything about his situation? Is this just the natural progression of a talented young player? Did he put in the hard yards over pre season? Did someone from the Crows/Norwood have a word with him last year to pull his finger out?

Need more legspeed more so i think.
Can get in more legspeed AND goal scoring as it is ous small/mid forwards that neen replacing.

Have not seen Grigg play this year, but a Norwood mate reckoned to me he is "cherry ripe" for AFL now.

I recall him standing out for me at the two training sessions I went to this preseason.

Grigg played some good minutes in the NAB Cup but I think we need to have another look at Callinan this week:rolleyes:

Belated post but I went down to Prospect last week.

Johnston looked good in a CHF role, apart from the goals he worked up the ground and his disposal was very good. There has been enough discussion in this thread about his game, and how hard he worked for his goals etc. The only thing I'd say is that the game wasn't a blowout - there was only 10 points in it at 3/4 time.

Tambling was pretty anonymous and I reckon he'd be falling back in the pecking order.

The one I liked the look of was Rory Atkins. He has no tank whatsoever and always seemed to end up in the wrong place - he'd be on for a switch when Sturt went up the line, or he'd run past for a handball when they kicked long, or vice versa. But when he got it, he showed real class and poise. He played off half back in the first half and looked like the clean user out of defence we are crying out for. The guy is a Didak clone and if he can build an AFL engine we will have a real player on our hands.

Westies on top. YeeHar.

Bernard needs to spend 3 + weeks in the SANFL for mine

I think it's more that, once he comes back into the side, he needs to feel like he can be dropped at any time. Keep him on eggshells.

I think we need faster more direct movement from midfield to our forwards more than anything. Even given the conditions, it was much better than it has been but still too slow and often too wide. So we end up with a forward line chock full of opposition players, makes it too hard for any forward. Also - ESPECIALLY - when we had them with their heads dropped, we should have been going quick, direct, corridor, but we wouldnt. We cant kill off teams still! Still havent learnt how to do it.

Its called avoiding peaking too early.

Watch what happens to Essendon later in the season.

There should be no timeframe on Bernie. He can win the Magarey Medal but if his attitude and intensity don't changed then he shouldn't get picked for the Crows.

Yes, his performance on the weekend, whilst obviously good on the surface, really probably isn't anything special for Bernie Vince. Such is his talent that he should be able dish out that kind of performance without breaking a sweat at that level. He shouldn't just be a good footballer at SANFL level, he should make every other player in that league look stupid such is his talent and ability. When Bernie Vince has really hit his straps, he'll be racking up 35+ touches a game, 10+ clearances, 10+ I50's and kicking 3+ goals a game, it may seem excessive but such is this guys talent when he's switched on.

I thought Atkins is more a small forward/midfield option. Why is he being used down back?
being taught accountability??? ......most young kids Atkins included are good offensively but lack defensive skills

If he's being played as a defender then that's good news

Well considering ive been defending us and our form with the avoiding peaking too early suggestion I support this.

Its funny, this will be like round 1 last year for some of our players who played all 4 nab cup games last season and hardly got a berth this year.

We will have to wait until the end of the season to know the wisdom of the delayed start. It does beg the question are their better ways to do it, players with breaks mid season for example??

With the way Sando's picked the side the past two weeks, I believe rest and rotation in the middle to latter rounds will play a big role, if we are in the frame for finals.

I can understand now why he didn't do so last year, because he as a coach and the team needed runs on the board to build support. From now on it's about being efficient and smart like Geelong have been under Bomber and Scott. For eg. Dangerfield will surely sit out the GWS game in a few week's time.

I think in hindsight Sando would put the first round loss in the 'shit happens' category. He'd have been furious about choking to Port like that and he seemed to reflect that during last week.

His plan this year would be more about getting games into young players and building a steady foundation, then the flashy win-every-game-at-all-costs approach we had last year, as that understandably took its toll while teaching important lessons.

I think its been a case of Bassett making him earn it. From what I can gather there were deficiencies in his game and attitude, but Bass has backed him in early this year stating he was going to fill the void left by our interstate mids who went home. There also the slight issue Norwoods midfield last year was awesome so it was hard to break into the team.
