Because ultimately the WA clubs know they'll need to? That they're unsatisfied with their current lack of success?

The real gap will be between rich afl clubs (who will be able to afford reserves sides) and the poor. Wonder which we'll be?
Rubbish ......how about us be an innovative club wee always talk about ....but have no evidence of being nothing more than a club that follows everyone else

Sorry but it seens as if I have I gone back in time to 1990 and reading the same argument regarding putting a team into the AFL.

It will wreak the local competition
The Crows won't pull a crowd and wont get any members and will end up being a financial drain on the SANFL competition.
The integrity of the SANFL will be lost.
SANFL clubs will die off.
And many other pointless and wrong arguments given as an excuse not to move forward.

Abd look at how things have turned out and how wrong the ******* nay sayers were. Ths is the same, no forthsite shown by anyone at the SANFL, only selfish and ignorant stupidity looking out fir their own self interests.

is that the basis of your argument  .....hell i'm in Melbourne, i don't follow SANFL .....but i do understand the cyclic nature of how AFL works and that if AFL clubs TRULY believed in reserves they would never have abandoned the concept for 10-15 years ......think about that !!!!!

Honestly, this is a ridiculous point. You have absolutely no facts to back it up.

I mean, I 100% disagree with everything else you've said, but at least there it is just having a misguided opinion. This post is just bollocks
Then don't read them because so far your contribution has also lacked fact or content other than to disagree .....believe me i don't post to please you so put me on ignore ;)

But you are talking about benefits and negatives behind having a reserves competition, most others are talking about the benefits and negatives surrounding the players systems we use, the behaviours the players demonstrate and acceptance and integration into the club behind having a reserves side.

Just because a reserves competition isn't in place, doesn't mean other clubs are not benefiting from having all if their players playing together.

Completely wrong.

Narrow-minded and self-interested, who would still want there to be only local leagues and no Crows side if their hand wasn't forced.

Most are only a step or so above amateur support staff, who give what limited time they can afford.

The talented administrators move into the fully professional sports.

I do hope you're not suggesting AFL clubs are professionally run :p

The same clubs who appoint coaches for 3 years on extrordinary $$$ and sack them 6 months later ..... or spent thousands of $$$ on legal cases for player reports not because they were innocent but to keep some reported player happy (using your membership dollars)

Professional .....no not by a long long way

He said sports, nit football in general.

Most Alex are not argueing that point ....in fact they really don't know why they hold their POV other than trotting out the club line

The "having players together" seems to be the only valid point ......better development argument is bullshit based on 100 or more years of reserves competition that has rarely developed players

If you have watched reserves footy and the poor quality of competition .......it is boring, aimless, and non competitive footy which the really good players have rarely played

CEY was alright. Lacked a little intensity and 2nd efforts at times, but hopefully they'll come when he gets fitter. Joyce turned over the ball a few times. Looking at the stats, Thompson only gave 3 FA - thought it was a few more than that. Kept getting pinged for pushing opponent blatantly in the back.

Still liking what I see of CEY, looks quite strong in that he can shrug off tackles and hold opponents off, and just has something about him. Hopefully he can string some good games together.
Joyce wasn't very visible today, L. Thompson didn't have a great day- gave away some silly frees and definitely more suited to being a running, rebounding defender than one-on-one contests.

Goldsworthy reminds me of Stokes back before he got drafted, not as quick but has a nice left foot and knows where the goals are.
Sumner also impressive again and has a nice kick coming out of defence. Still think we should have rookied him last year.

Sumner is a dickhead of a bloke. Dont go near him.

I really like Goldsworthy as well.

How DCaire isnt on an AFL list is a joke.

Luke Thompson is a hack. As the 3rd tall you need composed and accurate disposal. He Dont

How big is Caire? Is the knock on his size?

Goldsworthy has got something about him. Very Stokes/Christensen like at this level. Seems to break games open, really like his attitude. Whether that translates to a higher level I'm not sure but he's got more going for him that Hitchcock or McIntyre IMO.

The WA sides are both moving towards having their own reserves side. Do a google.

Even the mildly intelligent AFL analysts note the advantage of having a reserves side. Why do you think the richest clubs are choosing to do it? Every AFL club is moving towards it.

Us? Our hard nosed commitment to success has been doubted by many in the past. Here's another example.

Fremantle will be with Peel Thunder, West Coast with East Perth.

Geelong, Collingwood, Sydney, Hawthorn with Box Hill for eleven years ...

Obviously everyone else has realized something. We should just keep doing the same thing that has won us dozens of premierships.

Maybe you should forget google and do some research. Both WA AFL clubs have reserves teams, it was reinstated this season and has be trialled previously and never really has it found a balance or happy medium within the WAFL. Even now it's causing a lot of angst and trouble.
Now go and do some research about how AFL clubs have treated some of the VFL clubs that they've been aligned with and how poorly they've been treated.
I'll also remind you of just how much the AFL and all concerned suffer from a "pack mentality", "I'll have what she's having" and following of the latest gospels.
Here's a few AFL mantras from the recent past to think about-
"If you haven't made AFL football by age 21-23 you'll never make it." Only 5-10 years ago, and look at the talent they manage to find in the state leagues when they get off their lazy arses.
"We need to recruit athletes not footballers". Yeh that lasted a long time and what a stroke of genius that was!

My point is that there's many fads that get recycled through the AFL, just because its happening at the moment it doesn't mean that it's the best thing in the long term.
Don't follow leaders, watch the parking meters!

Put the 2 reserves teams in the VFL if you want to preserve the SANFL, but we NEED a reserves team.

It would probably make the SANFL coaches happier as well, knowing they don't have to wait on the Crows/Other mob to name their sides or worry about losing someone to a late injury.

I've got no problem whatsoever with AFL clubs wanting a reserve team for their excess players, only where they play and under what rules.
Would anyone on this forum be happy with different salary caps within the AFL? I know it happens to a degree with the expansion clubs and Sydney but what if collingwood and Carlton could have an extra 1million in their cap as compared to Adelaide? Would you think that's fair?
This is one of my main issues with AFL reserves in the SANFL, they can't abide by the intrinsic rules of the comp.
