If Jaensch doesn't fade too much before the end of the game stats-wise, he'll probably be straight back into the 22 against Richmond as a HBF or FP.

I wasn't a fan at the start of the season but he wasn't even playing particularly badly when he was dropped.

Your argument.

It's not logical. The point is that having your own Reserves side in the VFL works for some and not others. The clubs who have been at the bottom for years have had their own Reserves team and it's made no difference.

Adelaide, Port and West Coast have won premierships without it and Fremantle, until this year, have built up a good team without it.

Adelaide was close to a premiership last year without a Reserves side. The wheels haven't fallen off this year for lack of a Reserves side.

I'm pleased you found nothing to disagree with for most of my post, though.

So - in the history of the AFL it's worked three times? How many flags would these teams have won with a reserves team? Impossible to know, so this is hardly a useful point to make.

Geelong, Collingwood, Sydney and Hawthorn have dedicated reserves sides. So do Fremantle, who finally aren't a basket case.

Yeah, we obviously know better than them (and every other AFL side). Pity there's no data to support our position, at the same point as every other AFL team looks to consolidate their side into a single reserves team.

It's common sense.

Jaensch off to a flyer at Woodville. 2goals and 6 possessions in 10 mins.

In for Petrenko next week?

Stiffy an early goal against the Panthers as well
Prefer Stiffy for his "hard" approach after yesterday's insipid performance, one of the few players we still have with physical presence.

Is Travis Tuck worth a look? Saw him briefly in yesterday's game and he looked like a beast out there. Shane started his career quite late but has been great for Richmond, maybe Travis could follow a similar path, if he's got his off field life sorted out.

the man is a brute. disposal can be iffy but he's a monster in the pack. very strong. both his goals were just strength in close in the pack. apparently he's gotten his life back on track when he was with werribee and came over to prove himself further. starting to get up to speed, especially the last couple of games. watching him ruck (god knows why) just shows his leaping and strength, was able to beat renouf in the centre a couple of times.

Definitely worth a look .....whole family have been late developers

Just depends on how his illness is being managed?

He has a strong body and is hard at it but as you said his disposals need fixing. At present he also can hold onto the ball a little too long for my liking,in the AFL environment this would get punished. It is noticeable in the last few weeks though that he is coming to grips with the SANFL style of game. Early he was just serviceable but lately he has become much more comfortable in the centre.
I think he would need to string a lot more good games together and really dominant before he would be looked at again. Glad he is with us, if he can speed up his game a touch and hit targets more regularly who knows.

="Drugs Are Bad Mackay?, post: 28630872, member: 26163"]Sturt won! :D

If he continues his upward trend, he could be a bargain if we picked him up as a rookie. We already have a lot of inside mids but he could possibly be a Thompson replacement. His brother is a handy inside mid and had a few dominant years and Kennedy (swans) is similar, he took a few years to hit his straps.

Wasn't playing particularly good either

So do we think anyone in the SANFL did enough to impress for AFL selection?

I was always surprised that Summerton from Port never git an AFL go. Don't know he he is going thus season as I haven't seen many port games but he looked good in the past.

Has Tuck really been that impressive? I can only go by numbers and they aren't that flash.

Interesting listening to the heated debate on 5AA this morning.

Went something like this:

Shutts: I reckon it will happen, the SANFL and the clubs are coming to the realisation that commercially a Crows second side in the SANFL makes sense
Rucci: won't happen, I've spoken to the Presidents and they say no
Shuts: I've spoken to the CEOs and they are warming to it
Rucci: but I've spoken to the Presidents and they make the decisions
Shuts: yes, but they are going to take advice from their management
Rucci: youre just a parrot for the Crows
Shuts: you are a Moo.

Ok I made that last bit up but the way Rucci was talking over Shutts and getting all worked up because Shutts was expressing his opinion of what might happen was a disgrace.

I was listening to that and the way that Rucci kept non-stop talking over Shuts trying to prevent him from presenting his side of the debate was nothing short of despicable and rudeness at its peak.

It irritated me so much that I rang 5aa and spoke to the producer, asking them to tell Rucci that he is the rudest most ignorant bastard on earth and to shut his mouth when someone else is trying to express their point of view. I probably wasn't the only one because about 1 minute later they went to a break, after which Rucci restrained himself somewhat, giving Shuts half a chance to get a word in.

Rucci is nothing but an embarrassment to his "profession" (prostitutes are regarded as having a "profession" too), and I thought he descended into even lower levels than normal in this exchange.

only the last couple of games he has been. had something like 12 clearances vs norwood from memory, along with a couple of goals. early season he didn't play the first few games with an ankle injury and has only really settled in in the last 3 or so games.

Cheers... Hopefully he can get himself right (in every respect) and give afl another crack

how long do you guys think it will take for CEY to come good? Hes out injured for a few weeks but he was getting 15-20 touches for the eagles the last few weeks, not starring but stats wise not doing terrible.
Where do they play him? How does he go there?
I liked him the preseason games...

Someone like CEY is the reason we need a reserves side, we can't develop talent when they play for someone else

Well, hopefully this season us the end of a few things.

AAMI Stadium, the reserve players getting spilt amount the 9 SANFL clubs and the loss of draft picks.

Jan 1 - the club starts again and moves away from the mediocrity it's set itself in over the past 15 years.

Really? I would've thought that WWT have developed him nicely through his junior days to get him picked up by an AFL club. Please explain just how WWT are hindering his development at the moment.

Went to the Sturt/Eagles game, as I do most Sturt games, they played a very hard, contested ball, high pressure attacking game. The final margin flattered WWT. Sturt were kept to a two man bench (its only 3 in SANFL) for more than two quarters with Coad going off in the 2nd, I think Brodie Martin may have been injured and left in the fwd pocket in the last 1/4, Graham rucked really well, kicked two goals, is becoming a good prescence up fwd, and had a huge ice pack on his leg in the last 1/4. Jaensch started really well and was hard at it throughout the game (agree with comments about him used as a small fwd), Martin was great, chasing opponents down and hard in and under as was Riley who is a sensational ball winner, tackler and breaks tackles beautifully. The standout was Tambling, he was sensational, best game I've seen from him, tackled hard, chased, broke packs and ran lines through WWT players and hit up team mates lace out. Hardly had a clanged all game.
Was good to see Marty Mattner at the game also

Some people are missing the point

It's not just about the players individual development is about teaching them to play the crows way and in the crows structure

Look at the Geelong youngsters that come into the senior side they rarely miss a beat because they are playing the role they have been drafted for in their reserve side and they are learning the Geelong game plan in the reserves side

However our pkayers go back to sanfl clubs, some play a different role to the one that the crows have drafted them for and most play a total different game plan to the plan which Sando wants to install at the AFC

A reserve side is a must not only to develop players in the role which we drafted them for but to enable the Senior coach to embed our game plan and style of play

Sometimes an example is best.
Imagine a SANFL team controlled by Port during 2008-12 with a few AFC players being forced to learn the chippy chippy shuffle and then being expected to perform every time they got a call up to your senior side. :D

As I've mentioned before, I agree that they should have their own reserves teams if all of their data indicates that this is best for their development. So just how is CEY's development being hindered at the moment? Details please! If there are none then I'll take it as nonsense.
Again, if both clubs want reserves sides then a fair compromise is in the SANFL reserves competition. If they decide not to agree to this then it mustn't be that important to them.
