While my brother, sister and old man (three fans equally as big as me, if not more) disagree, I believe Season 5 is one of, if not the best seasons. There's a long line of pretty good episodes and not many average/bad ones at all. And as you said, the amount of memorable moments to come from Season 5 is huge

As long as I've bumped this thread, has anyone been able to catch much of the Mega Marathon on FOX8? Week 1 (which showed Season 1 - approx. Season 10) was fantastic and I was hooked in, it was pretty much all we watched at home for the week. Saw a little bit during Week 2 (Season 10 - Season 20), and haven't seen any really this week (Season 20 onwards)

I particularly liked 'Fear of Flying' and of course 'Bart vs Australia'.
Bart vs Australia is one of the best eps IMO. Hilarious throughout.

I decided to do what many have done and re watch the show over again starting with season 1. I wanted to see when the drop off begins for myself rather than take others word for it.
Season 1 is pretty slow but picks up in season 2 and by season 3 it’s classic Simpsons.
I watched every episode back to back until I got to season 9. This is where I started to skip episodes and the downfall begins. Some downright terrible episodes in this season. I’m amazed it lasted an extra 23 seasons after that.

But I can’t rag on season 9 that much because it delivers this scene when Homer goes to stay at the old folks home and greets everyone

I was only thinking about this recently - Ha
Totally agree on season 3 - that was the start of the peak.
I'll have to go back and watch Season 9 now as I always felt the end of the peak was season 11, and then season 16 was when the cliff came and there have been no episodes better than 'meh' and the majority terrible since then.

Season 3 to Season 8 is the best television of all time in my opinion. Would have easily seen those episodes over 20 times each. Haven’t watched a new episode of the show in 15 years I reckon, will catch a couple of minutes here and there but that’s it. It’s kind of amazing it’s still going though.

Seasons 10, 11 & 12 are far better than season 9. 13-16 have moments and suddenly in 17/18 the ground collapses from underneath

Before starting my rewatch I knew season 9 would be the cutoff but I was still surprised. Season 8 cracks start appearing (Homer gets stupider, episodes have nonsensical endings) but in season 9 it really disintegrates. I'd be angry if I tried rewatching season 10 onward.

I'll pay the Homer one. He becomes intolerably stupid around then

Also energetic, throwing himself into things for the sake of the plot. Homer was someone who's laziness used to cause his troubles.
